This weekend had originally been penciled in as an Algonquin trout opener trip for us but with the late ice-out this spring and backcountry reservations still closed, we decided to head north to assess tree damage post ice-storm and of course, get some fishing in as well.
We launched the boats and were on the lake Friday by 11am, lines down and fishing our usual spring location by noon. Nick was the first on the board with a nice whitefish, caught on a 1" soft plastic minnow rigged on a high hook:

#2 an hour or so later:

Later we marked a school of fish in deeper water on bottom in 55' and surprisingly ran into a pair of pre-spawn jumbo perch:

Friday haul:

Saturday was mostly a rainout but we did manage to get out to fish for a few hours and landed a couple more whitefish. This particular fish sporting a fresh wound:

Sunday morning we picked off a few more whitefish (released 2, kept 1) and finally a lake trout as well. Landed by my friend Mike (wootang89) in 33' on a fly he tied himself:

Overall a great weekend fishing with the guys and we all came home with some fresh fish to enjoy.
