Got out early on the ice at 7:00am still dark and saw a few small perch, but the perch started rolling in when the sun came up. Caught two 11" perch before noon then the pike started to appear, my son had one come up to his lure but was not interested at all.

Around 12:00noon a 30" came up to my lure which I had stationary and looked at it but did not take it, after I gently jiggled it and slowly brought it up he inhaled it.

The second one a 28" was caught about 1:00p.m with the same lure and procedure.

All in all we had an awesome day and packed up at 2:30pm.

Actually no, my drag was not too tight so I let it run a but but kept reeling in and after about a minute it came up to the hole. But I wished he did put up a fight so I could enjoy the feeling of reeling in a big fish.

A silver slab grabber with a chartreuse bead tipped with a live minnow.

Iíve never fished Simcoe before. Is that the average size for pike?

Yes about average, although I have seen larger like 40" come up to my lure sniff it and swim away. I sight fish for them looking down through the hole I can see them as the water is very clear this time of the year.

Nice fish, Tesmel, congrats!

I like the slab grabber but imo the hook is too small and the barb is quite bad on it for hooking a bigger fish like pike. I lost quite a few fish on it over the years because of the hook.
