Hey guys,

Just getting my gear greased up and ready to go. Wanted to ask if others run in to issues with their braided line and their sonar?

In the summer I give it a few quick snaps to release the air from the line, or just flip to heavy mono.

I was wondering if anyone is using a braided line that is sealed, or wax coated that does not contaminate the sonar column when it first gets wet?

Not a massive issue, but love how mono gives no read, but just hate using it due to stretch, and proneness to breakage.

What line are you using that does not “bubble”?

Fireline Fused Micro Ice Crystal. 10lb test for the mainline with a 8-10 pound 20in seaguar fluro leader. You can attach it with a double uni knot or a swivel. Swivel prevents a lot of line twist with aggressive jigging. You will have to back your reel with a bit of 6 pound mono tho.

Powerpro makes a ice braid that has a coating to help with water retention and ice up. Its like Teflon wrapped around heir braid fibres. Not Teflon exactly but very close. Works well for me. 5lb is my go to.

I second that power pro ice line. I put it on all my ice rods. I’ve tried lots of different line. The power pro ice is the best in my opinion.

Those bubbles only appear on well used frayed line at least for me. I also find they go away once it gets soaked.

I’ve started to switch to flouro only setups. Seems to eliminate a lot of issues.

I just switched a couple of reels from regular braid to power pro ice and I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference.
Looking for something that doesn't freeze when I venture out of the hut. I've been thinking about fluoro.

X2,

I did the same and found it helped.

I can never find fluoro that doesn't kink up off my reels, especially on my smaller, ligher setups for ice fishing. I use fluoro as a leader line but never a whole spool. I either use small, steelhead sized swivel or the alberto knot.

Never been a fan of braided line its useless in my opinion almost a gimmick causes more issues then results. Also getting snagged up on a long or whatever puts a lot of unwanted stress on a rod.

I have p line floro ice on 4 micro reels.....3-8 ib test and zero problems with kinks or anything else.

2 of the reels have the line on for 4th year

for my deeper sets, 60 feet plus, it is braid and floro all the time

use what works for you

Useless ?
I can promise you will land more deep water fish with braid then any other type of line. The sensitivity, line memory, and no stretch is unmatched.
Using Fluoro leaders of course.

I agree once the Braid is wet and after a few up and downs from the hole I no longer get bubble interference on my sonar.

The ONLY downsides I have with braid is that it holds more water and will freeze up if used in -0 weather and not in a hut or the like.

I agree with this. Never had this issue. I also change my line every three years
