Fishing on Cooks Bay fairly large area to fish. Buddy has zero fishing edict decided to fish basically beside my hut.

Like bud the whole bay an you choose beside another hut?

Definitely new to the sport because he had no clue what way to turn the auger. He did drill straight down eventually

Am I the only one who thinks is is unacceptable?

All 3 of those huts are much closer than I would fish to anyone.

Should be how deep the water is That's how far away you should be from the next hut . But really that does not look like 20 feet looks like more then that , The question is did you have fun ? . Should get a range finder

When you said "beside my hut" I figured you meant close enough to high five each other.

I expected way worse. That’s pretty good for Simcoe! Lol. I had a guy setup maybe 50 ft away up north today in a huge bay. Whatever. Then his damn gas auger wouldn’t start. Spent ten minutes yanking and sputtering that thing. Finally went out and offered to punch his holes so I wouldn’t have to listen anymore. He accepted and was amazed at my little drill setup I think.

I don’t pay attention to people real close to me I just out fish them. But if they got an auger that sounds like a lawn mower with headers that can get a little aggravating !!

You said - he looks like .. a new to the sport...
OK, everybody have to start somehow.
Instead of complaining, ask him to your hut for a fishing together (the weather is rather unfriendly) and just ...murder the guy!!! ...I'm kidding... just explain to him how it's working for everybody to be happy. He's new to the sport, and will probably got some good advise how to behave. Talk to the people !!

Hard to tell with the picture sideways lol. I have had them setup half that distance on cooks. It is why I switched to decalf. Beats getting myself charged.

It was hit city out there today in cooks... the only time of year that I can kinda understand the clusters of people. Limited ice that’s proven to be safe, and of course a ton of people that bought all the gear leading up to ice, only to abandon the hobby after “it wasn’t what I thought it would be”... Kijiji away!

When someone has never been on the ice, and they are venturing out for the first time, I understand why they might “cling” close to others out of fear and nervousness. However, I should mention... 2 weeks from now... GTFO OF HERE YOU VULTURE!
LOL 🤣
