Hello everyone, I am new to hunting and only my 3rd time going for grouse this weekend.

My buddy and I had got 5-6 birds in a full day of hunting last couple times, this weekend started off very slow with 3 birds all Friday. Saturday morning we got 10 ( our limit for 2 guys in a day) and saw 6 after that all in less then 2 hours.

Just curious if this is something we should expect to see again or rare event for us?

Thanks for reading.

We hunt north of Sudbury and we usually average about 3 birds per day per ATV. I would say that you did well.

Deerhunter, thanks.

We were also north of sudbury. It felt like a dream seeing all the birds come out at once.

I walked 4 miles along a trail north of Kirkland Lake a few years back & never saw a feather. On my way back I got my limit & saw another 12 or so.

Where I am I find their numbers sort of run on a cycle. A few bad years followed by a good year or 2. Winters and predators also play thier part.

You did very well. I hunt south of North Bay and have been out four times and only brought home four birds (all on the same day).

However, I did manage to pick up 22 beer cans/bottles that some jackasses leave in the woods.

Happy hunting.
