Given the new regulations in place for bait management, does anyone know of any local suppliers for live minnows in the Temagami region? I used to go to Gramp’s Place off highway 11 but I was informed they will no longer be carrying emerald shiners.

I've used Billy bobs bait a couple times now. Pleasant people, lively minnows, dependable.

Thanks! Just phoned them and they said they should have live shiners by mid December.

Would it be legal to trap your own emerald shiners and freeze them. I know a few lakes in cochrane area with emeralds.

Yes the new regs are complete bullshit. Using frozen dead bait is not an issue

I believe you have to be a permanent resident in the bmz to do so.

Be a permanent resident in the specific zone to trap live bait for use in that zone? Still unclear on some of the new regulations.

Yes can only trap bait in your home BMZ for use in said BMZ. Come on, who needs bait!

Yes me too. Never done it but buying frozen bait for pike? Any thoughts. Are you still allowed and what frozen cisco? Corn? I heard was bad for digestion. So why not small perch or other caught species from the same lake now? Usually stick with metal hooks anyways!
