Happy Sunday everyone. The farm I hunt has an abundance of squirrels. Black and the eastern grey I think. Hunting them seems easy enough but I have never eaten them. Are they good, how do you cook them. Any info is always appreciated.

tree rats are really good eats.used to eat lots of them when we were kids.skin, gut then quarter them the we fried them like chicken.shake and bake in the oven is likely pretty good as well.
one time i missed a bit of hair on a leg after telling my little sisters we were having chicken.the screaming started when they realized it was not black feathers.lol

Yes they are definitely good. I like to hang mine for a few days somewhere cool. Instead of chicken pot pie, I make tree rat pie or tree rat soup. Simmer, debone and return the meat to whatever you are making. One of these days I may try to make Kentucky fried rat.

Squirrels are better IMO than rabbits.
30 mins in the pressure cooker then make whatever you like. Fall off tender.

Also squirrels don't have to eat their own faeces to survive like rabbits do.

Do a "Google" search--Squirrel Recipes. All kinds of them--take your pick.

I'm with disc on this, better than rabbit. I'd hunt them too, but I hunt deer in the bushes I have permission. I have to get my deer before I hunt squirrel.

Just shoot them with an air rifle and all good. Or use a cross bow.

I hunt them where I hunt deer also.

I'm in the same boat. I also use a beagle for rabbits, so she would stir the deer up a little too much.

Squirrel is definitely tastier than rabbit!
