Oh yeah! I like that the most notable part of this report is my knife!…it’s gotta be approaching its 10th fillet job by now. 🙃

Well done Andrew.....those fillets look delicious.....Thx for sharing.

You really had to work for those but worth it in the end.

Arnie

Yup, totally worth it. Ate a few fillets this evening mmmmmmm. I guess that’s the price to pay being the first guy in, ya win some, ya lose some. Travelled a long ways further than I wanted to carrying a canoe this morning, but someone’s gotta be the Guinea pig.

Wow. Quite the day. Nice reward for the slogging and drenching.

I am a bit surprised they were hitting like that. I had the impression that splake, as well as specks, needed a little time----2 weeks maybe?----after ice out before they started biting.

In my experience, I agree Knuguy, for lakers and especially specks, which is why I chose to target splake.

That's a bit puzzling IMO. If both lakers and specks behave that way I would expect splake would as well.

On local lakes that do not have splake or specks and the ice has left the shoreline (still in the main lake preventing fishing from a boat) my group and I have had good luck fishing for lake trout from shore in the shallow water. Good memories of sitting on shore and listening to the sound of chimes created by melting ice.
