Waiting for material at work and based on the weather forecast for the weekend I decided I’d skip out on work and go fish…. Life is too short and the weather today started out beautiful. I’m truly blessed to be able to do this.

Headed out to a new spot, I had scouted out last time I was out when James visited. Nobody on the lake, launched at 10, hit the spot by 10:15, and at 10:16, fish on! Fish were coming in high 10ft off bottom in 30-40fow, and dive bombing the vibrato, I’d see 3-4 fish at a time come in and hover 7-10 off bottom, then dive bomb my lure jigging near bottom. I could get them to chase all the way to the boat and only a fraction of the fish would hit.

The whitefish here are very big and I caught only a fraction of the hits I had, losing multiple fish part way up in true whitefish fashion. Had a freight train of a fish hit me and peeled 100ft line then came unbuttoned.

Fished until 12:15 then headed home with 6 fat whitefish in my well. What a great solo day chasing fish, or rather them chasing me, non-stop! Had some rough seas on the way back, I had been fishing in a secluded bay and had some waves on the way back, nothing too serious but would have been rough in a canoe or kayak.

Whoever braves the weather this weekend, good luck and stay dry!

That's a nice stack of fish. I have never fished for those or eaten any. Are whitefish mild tasting or stronger like pike.

Extremely mild and the skin is delicious once it is scaled and cooked properly.

I’ll trade you for some for a feed of crappie! I’ll even put you on the short list for a ride along if you want.
