Congrats Drew. Brookies are the best! You deserve every inch of the catch because your fantastic commitment to your family. I see you using one of my favorite reels - Shimano Solstace. (If I'm not wrong) How do you like this reel? My only concern is short living time of the trigger mechanism. After one season (even with maintenance, and careful using) it is not the same as .. new.. Maybe, I had a bad luck - twice, but... (by the way I'm using the other model with the single knob handle).

Spirex. I've been using them for around 10 years now. Fast retrieve, trigger cast, and more importantly rear drag.., the quick adjust lever comes in handy when snagged in a wind, when canoe control can be a challenge. You're right, I think quality may be hit and miss. I have one that's way smoother than another, and it's been used a lot more. Im not easy on them though, banging around in the bush, and mishaps portaging, hitting them on the canoe and stuff, I call it part of the cost of doing business. If they last me 2 or 3 years, that's all I can ask.

Sounds like a great day out. She will be carrying the canoe in no time. Beautiful fish!
Thanks, and I can't wait! She was asking who cut the trails and chainsawed the planks for passing through wet areas and such ...sounds like a future junior ranger.
