Headed out for an exploratory river trip today. Paddled and fished the river for close to 4 hours and only a couple little small mouth had given any indication of life beneath the surface.

Very quiet, only saw two other guys in a canoe all day...

Next, I get a fish on and it starts taking drag, ...
Seems big for a Brookie ...

(Yeah, I took a pic of an o.o.s. fish...we've had that debate before, so say what you will)

I get 4 smaller ones in the next 10 minutes...
And then, a nice 18" Brookie puts up a good fight, splashing around and pulling me into the faster water...I think the river brookies fight harder than their lake-dwelling buddies....maybe they're used to constantly battling the current?...

So after 4 hours of almost no action, and a few km travelled,
I have my Brookie limit in the canoe inside half an hour! Plus 2 more released and the smallmouth.
Needless to say I was pretty jacked for a bit, and pulled ashore to clean the fish and throw them on ice
May have had a celebratory beverage at this point too.

Started to head out, as it was threatening rain, and getting late in the day...
Got some rain on my 1 1/2 hr trip back to the truck.

A bit wet, a bit tired out, but definitely a fun day on the river, and now I have another Brookie spot on my go-to list!

The keepers

those keepers look delisious!

I am waiting for back country season to open up for a trip out with the misses to target some brookies!
