I am sure SSIC is aware of the government relief programs available to them. I don’t think this is relevant or any ones business whether they applied or were eligible for these programs. I think Garnett was just trying to tell the story of how jerked around they have been this year. (As well as many other hut operators/businesses.) I am sure he was also trying to provide everybody with an update as every time there is a provincial announcement their phone rings off the hook with people asking questions about bookings etc.
Even if they received the “free 20k” I am sure it dwindled quickly. The massive amount of time, effort and man power needed to haul all his huts out and set them up only to receive no income in return and pull them off the ice would be extremely frustrating. On top of this the thousands of dollars of PPE and safety equipment (as well as a sterilization unit to clean huts) they have purchased.
The lockdown being extended in this area just makes absolutely no sense when compared to other regions numbers and measures in place.
We have been loyal customers of SSIC for about 10 years now. We tried a few other operators prior to this, and I can honestly say their service is second to none. They go way above and beyond to keep customers happy. We would have loved to have been able to keep our booking this year but unfortunately that was not possible due to our group being from different households. I wish all the best for this business and others in the same boat. Keep your heads up and hopefully we return to “normal” sooner than later. See you next season SSIC...hopefully two trips!

You mention the purchasing of PPE and how costly it could be. I believe there's a grant for that too.
I'm trying to be helpful from one business owner to another. Some people just aren't aware of what's out there.

Contact a Economic Development Officer in your area for more info.

just to play devils advocate here, is it possible that this guy is actually doing a remarkable job?

People are complaining that north bay area has so many fewer cases than others but remains in lockdown. would it be better to have many more cases and more liberties?

This lockdown beind handled this way is bull crap. It should be all or nothing. Oh, us in Simcoe muskoka have been good boys and girls. You are free. Oh you live over here. You are bad. No stores or malls for you. So what does that do? Everyone from a lockdown region goes into another less restricted region and starts the spread again. Open Toronto and peel and north bay. They can do their business in their region and us in ours. Sure some will still cross out of necessity or ignorance as the case may be but I believe their would be less region to region spread. We all know those from lockdown areas are going to Vaughn, cookstown, Durham, London, Barrie etc to get their fix. They should be allowed to do it in their own region.

In my small town like so many others the grocery stores have remained open convenience stores, dollar store. Lots of people in and out all day long, with virtually no covid, trust me in a small town you would know, word spreads fast. Yet small business can't remain open, even to let a few in at a time, the risk simply does not warrant this, it makes no sense to kill these businesses. We are an hour away from any large center yet are subject to the same punishment, lazy Government as usual.

Nothing is well thought out. Always seems like they implement the easy route with less complications for themselves. We are all just a bunch of numbers.

What you guys do is not easy work. Breaks my heart you get d!cked around.

These are my opinions only.....

This Health Unit was shut down due to the overwhelming incoming of snowmobilers to the Mattawa Trails in early January. Their trails are always the first to open and sledders chase the snow. The mayor of Mattawa was pressured by certain people in Mattawa to do something about it.

He complained to Dr. Chirico our CMO. Instead of asking Ford to police who's coming into the health Unit (the most logical thing to do, that's what the OPP are for) they just did a more extreme tactic and closed down the trails. They closed down the ODRs, ice bungalows/outfitters and ski hills and toboggan hills. They left X-country ski trails open because that's what the wealthy like to do in winter around here.

Now I see the mayor of Mattawa is in deep caca of overstepping his authority in a disciplinary issue with his relative by threatening the town's CAO and a manager.

Ford and the Health Units have mismanaged this pandemic from day one.
