Did our annual camping trip with most of the regular crew...dad, uncles, cousins, friends.
Started off quick, we had our 4 fish limit in my boat within the first couple hours fishing.
Headed back in to our site, and the other boats had a few lakers as well. Filleted our catch for a fish fry that evening. Nobody went hungry, that's for sure.

Next day, rain on and off, and hail. Still each of the 4 boats managed a fish or two. We got in the neighbourhood of 35 lakers I guess, releasing about half and bringing some home, too.

No giants, I guess my 4 lb fish was the biggest...I caught a couple tagged fish too, which I reported to the girl at the Harkness fish lab, as they're always interested in info and locations, size, etc.

Another great trip enjoyed by all.

A week later...(this past Saturday), my dad and I tried a new splake lake in the canoe for a couple hours.
Lost two little guys under a pound near the canoe, then got a decent one approaching 4 lb.

No, the canoeing was just a day trip for splake...I combined two trips into one report.

On Opeongo, we had 4 boats, 2guys per boat. Can't say for sure on the other guys, but in my boat we got all our lakers between 55 and 75 feet, on bottom.

Nice fish. I'm surprised that such an accessible lake as Opeongo has so many.

Nice fish. I'm surprised that such an accessible lake as Opeongo has so many.

Look at Rosseau, Joe, or Muskoka for example. More accessible and closer to higher population of humans than Opeongo, yet still great producers.

More people fish Opeongo for lakers in the summer I'd bet, but then it's closed all winter, when the big three in Muskoka get hammered.

Thanks for the great report.

Did you jig them up or troll for them.

My last two summers there I caught most of mine suspended trolling deep water down 30 feet of riggers on spoons.

Saving this year's trip for September and can't wait.
