So , my brother and I just got our drivers licences and we’re planning on doing an overnight fishing trip but not too far from home. Trenton is the closest part of BOQ to us but on the depth charts it seems very shallow, does it still produce those famous BOQ walleye ? If anyone has any answers a PM would be much appreciated !

Quinte is sketchy at the best of times spud every step if you're going ,if you've never been expect alot of plated ice , ,great fishery but can be really inconsistent out there, good luck

Ice on the bay is inconsistent at the best of times. This years is even worst due to the warm temps and rain. Looking at satellite its been open water just as much as its been frozen. The satellite is showing ice now but it looks thin.
Onderdonks and trenton are 2 very different areas although geographically in the same area of the bay. Trenton has ample current and onderdonks where im assuming the huts are has little to no current, meaning onderdonks could have huts and trenton might be unsafe to walk. Its all about where the current is.
Yes this fishery is still producing giants and numbers but its not a sure thing at all. Many of the people who catch huge walleye are good fishermen who know the areas and have the means of getting there and to multiple spots staying mobile ie a snowmobile and a flip over. If you are walking and using a pop up your chances are less than a guy who is able to constantly move to find fish.
Either way, good luck and err on the side of caution. Spud everywhere and where a float suit.

I often fished the Trenton end of the Bay as that is all I knew. I would park at Bain park and walk out. I can tell you two things for sure. First, the ice there is indeed some of the least consistent anywhere on the Bay. I find it also freezes later due to the currents others have mentioned. Second, it is a fairly long walk compared to most other areas like POTTERS etc.
As beginners, I would recommend going to Onderdonks and looking for the tracks leading out to the huts. There is deeper water and IMO the fishing is better. The shallows around Trenton and Bain park do produce some fish, but rarely the giants you see posted.
And I know that funds may be a challenge being young, but a guide can teach you a great deal about how and where to fish the Bay. There are lots of good ones listed on this site and others.

Hi Tyler,
Did you end up going? if yes can you give an update on location and ice? i never fished BOQ and i was thinking to give it a try. Looks like Trenton area is where i would go on the ice, and it is closest while coming from Toronto. not looking for monsters by any means, if i could get a couple eaters that will make me happy. i fished nipissing 5 years in a row but with the restrictions that lake has, i'm yet to be able to keep one.
some other people mentioned some other locations but looking at google maps i can't figure where i could park my car for the day. Onderdonk ln seems to be ending in a private road, Potters i am not even sure where it is
I am wiling to get my spud bar and find my way, besides i bet that i will be able to see a hut or a popup once on the ice, but the hardest part for me is always finding a place to park the car.
