My son came for a visit from B.C. and since he has never visited in the winter since we moved to the area, he wanted to experience some Lake Nipissing Ice fishing. We ventured out in the extreme cold almost daily and fishing was rather slow. He loved the entire ice shack experience and did manage to catch some walleye and a few perch. His last day out he hooked this beauty, almost 27 inches and over 7 lbs.
I normally would release a fish this size but he was so excited about the catch he was shaking and pleaded to keep it. I know I will take some criticism for it but we comprimised in agreeing that everyone is entitled to keep one trophy like this in their lifetime and any others ever caught will get released. We kept it for a beautiful family walleye dinner. Nice ending to a great memorable visit.

Wow what a great fish! And keeping it is totally ok. We keep any keeper we can catch (usually one with 12 lines in the water). The population is on the rise and the fish are getting closer to slot every year. Hopefully he will come out and catch another!

If a moderator could fix the image it would be appreciated.

With the regulations as they are now, they pretty much force you to keep the big ones, just to get a taste. That's a beast

If it is legal you never have to apologies for keeping a fish.

It is amazing it missed the gill nets and lived to get that size.

Congrats.

Sorry Kubota but Im not sure what you are referring to? Can you be more specific.

Also, thanks everyone for the support in our decision to keep the fish. I really believe in catch and release for the those big breeders but the occasional keeper makes for a memorable outing.
