I've been in and out of the bush over the last few days. No black flies yet. But bugs are active so I'm sure they'll be out soon.

Trent Hills chiming in. They've been quite active for over a week.

I'm fortunate though. They swarm me but don't bite me.

Mozzies on the other hand!

Hey does anyone know if a Thermacell works for Black Flies?

Any tips and tricks, recommendations?

I would love to know if a Thermacell units work on black flies as well. I bought one very late last yr and haven't tried it out yet.
Still wondering if I wasted $$$. I'll know by mid-next week for sure...heading to the French River.

Cheers,

I bought a Thermocell last summer as the mosquitoes just wouldn't quit day or night. I believe it helped but the wind definitely made a difference on how well it worked. No idea on how it works with black flies though but know the were really bad last spring. I picked up the mesh head gear for the first time time as they were flying in the every opening.
I am out of town for work currently but the better half indicated that they were out today till the breeze picked up.

I am also curious about the thermocell and black flies. I got a free unit last year with my membership to OFAH. Thought I would use it for the spring bear hunt this year, but that is not happening for me.

Have used them bear hunting a fair bit. They work and quite well.
With it on you think boy bugs are not so bad out here.
Turn it off and look out.
Worth the money in my opinion.

I love the outdoors, especially Northern Ontario. That is where I plan to retire. But for the time being I am "confined" to a house in the GTA. The problem with the GTA is that if you want to do anything fun, you have to drive a significant distance North. Up side is: we have no black flies or mosquitoes here in cozy Etobicoke.
