Had a great day fishing with Chris Huskilson in the Kawartha region. In the vlog report you may learn how to catch fish you see when the don’t want to bite right away. We captured some pretty rare crazy fish strikes while site fishing for some beautiful black crappie! Hope you like it!

So I was curious. How did they taste and what was the length and weight. Crappie fishing is so intriguing. When I see a video like that more information if you could please. Best fish to catch and eat in my opinion. In the spring, right at ice out I go around the clock fishing for crappie sometimes.

It looks like you will not get any answers to your questions. Some people post YT links here to just get views.

I think he just doesn't check this forum very often. he's usually responds eventually, I asked him awhile ago for names of people for a guide trip and he was nice enough to throw a few out there, unfortunately covid kind of ruined early season bass in zone 20, but still sent me in the right direction.

Didn’t weigh em but biggest was a little over 15”. We released these fish because the lake wasn’t very big. I think it might lead to stunting the population if you take biggest spawners from a tiny lake. But it here also theyre a great fish to eat.

Thank you. If you like catching crappie Balsam has some real monsters. That is where I have caught most of my biggest crappie. If I could it would be everyday all day fishing off a boat and all night fishing from shore just to find the Ontario record. I think it is hiding in Balsam somewhere. Might take me a few more years. Gotta find it before my friend does.

I saw pic years ago of one caught there. It was so big I couldn’t believe my eyes! Crappie are one of my favourites for sure. Their behaviour is so peculiar (some may argue my behaviour is perculiar also lol). A very interesting phantom/ ghost like fish that seems to appear in hoards out of no where and then disappear in hoards. A very easy and very challenging fish at the same time, if tha makes any sense. I totally understand your ambition to chase these fish. They make me crazy but it’s their complexity that keeps me hungry in the chase. Lol

Very well said. A phantom ghost like fish, I like that. In the darkness of night with a full moon, and a glow stick on my bobber. No sound, just me starring at a glowing green light in the mist. Then it just disappears with no warning. A monster crappie turns the still night water to a boil. You catch the fish and cast out again, hoping you did not disturb the other twenty under the surface. That's my definition of a perfect night fishing adventure.

Early morning or late evening, right where the lily pads are growing. They are still in those areas. And at night, try the shore line. Very slow with whatever you choose to use.
