Hey guys I have a couple of Pflueger XT 30 reels.
I love the reels but find that the fishing line I typically use doesnt flow well with them.
It actually makes a noice as it passes through the line feed on retrieve.
I have been using the spider wire 10lb.
The reel is braid spool ready so I thought nothing of it but it really does not work properly.

Any recommendations would be great.

I use primarily braid on the same real. Sufix 832, either 10,20, or 30lb braid. I like the way it casts, very smooth. I tried other braids, but I haven't found anything I like better yet, other than Flourocarbon. I find that the dark green is the best one, the camo is terrible. I usually fish Balsam, so base the water quality on that.

Hey, MC.

First of all, how is your line winding on a spool? Is it even and smooth? Sometimes you need to put a small plastic washer or two to raise a spool a bit to create an even line winding.
this maybe the reason.

I don't think your line is bad.

Hey JB, now that you mention it does wrap a bit uneven.
Can you describe what you mean a liitle better regarding the washer?

If your line laying uneven on your spool you will need to either take off a spacer/plastic washer from the shaft or add extra spacer(s) depending on your line tapering up or down on the spool.

if you need to add a spacer and you don't have one you can cut it out from a plastic bottle

This video should help explain it.

JB thanks!!! LOL Now I know what those "extra" parts in my reel box are for.. I have a couple of reels with this issue and I thought they were just getting old - haha.. I will fix em.

I also have some felt spacers, which I am certain are for servicing the drag. I need to be more diligent with my reel maintenance. All I do is oil them a bit now and again..

Ha, no problem, Jerry!
This happens to various reels once in a while.

X2 on suffix 832 braid. I used to use powerpro moss green religiously but I switched two years ago and the 832 seems smoother to me , less stiff.

jerkbait, thanks, I haven't had this problem yet, but could not figure out what the spacers were for. I will watch for this problem and not lose those parts, I hope I still have them.

You’re welcome .

The 8 strand braid is definitely preferred over 4 strand line for slickness and overall ease of passing thru the guides but in my experience the winding quality of the reel is the main factor
