Opened the cottage yesterday with my Brother and when the work was done we we're rewarded with a few crappie for a nice ribeye and crappeye cookout.

That is a great dinner, and bet it sure smelled good out there. What tasted best, the steak, crappie or bluegill. I must admit my favourite dinner is a prime rib steak on the BBQ. I buy prime rib roasts and them cut them into steaks. Second favourite dinner is crappie and pork chops together on a flat stone tray inside the BBQ. And of course the potatoes and onions and all the rest.

Definitely the crappie was the best part. You can do steak anytime, you don't always get the crappie. Well you do lol. There's just something about cooking over the fire that makes it better.

not the post to read before breakfast. very nice, great pictures. I think most of us have gotten away from cooking on a real fire, I know i have, gas BBQ are so convenient but you loose the taste. I think I would take gills over any other fish.

All of it looks awesome.

Crappy are such a delicate fish they are the total opposite spectrum from a amazing steak. I love pairing drastically opposite flavours and textures together.

I find the blue bill and that lone pumpkin seed hiding in there to have very sweat meat with a firmer texture of hat the crappy. I prefer the hat firmer texture myself but wouldn’t say not to any of those amazing fish.

X2. Bluegills are super sweet in the spring. I miss the bluegill feeds I used to get in Trent Hills.

You can't beat a feast of spring pan fish. I'd rather have that over walleye.
