Traded the annual walleye opener in the Kawarthas for a trout trip in Algonquin this year, looking forward to the portaging and quiet of the park. Getting a few splake or specks would just be a bonus.

That should be a great trip! No crowds and tranquility of the park.
Enjoy and good luck with fishing!

Watched it as well. He is good, but likely there's a lot if editing going on.
Love his tiller boat, no consul to get in the way. Perfect.

Cheers,

Yeah, he is one of the best and few that I watch.
He does a lot of explaining and education about the locations, techniques, lures, cadences, use of electronics etc. and not merely showing how he catches fish.

Yep, lots of searching would be required.
Saturday forecast for Rice 22C, 8 km S wind, mix of sun and clouds.

Tons of june bugs out tonight and I suspect the next couple of nights. The crappie will be in shallow water, close to the surface tomorrow morning and the next couple of days picking off the june bugs that are floating on the water. Best time to catch crappie will be 5am until lunch time I would say. Good luck if anyone can get out. Good luck on the walleye opener as well. I am hoping to get out on the water Tuesday.

Thanks, CM, same to you: good luck when you go!

It's another strange Spring this year, or should I say no Spring as it seems that we are jumping from Winter right into Summer

Thank you DB very nice walleye you have there. I hope I am lucky enough to catch 3 Kawartha Walleye on Monday night. Like JB said good luck in your tournament. Oh ya, where exactly did you you catch that walleye. I know you told me the exact spot, it just must have slipped my mind. Can you remind me and everyone else exactly where the walleye are biting please. LOL

So the long awaited walleye opener was almost a bust.

In summary, between two of us we got one walleye (19") and 4 OOS LM's in 2-3 lb range.

Well, that's fishing and we still had a great time with a buddy on the water.

Fished Rice between 3-8 pm and tried various lures and depth. lots of boats on the water as the weather was excellent for outdoors - hot and sunny.

The water was very stained already with lots of floating weeds .

I cannot believe my fishfinder when I looked at it to check the water temp - it showed 23C, holy smokes . I don't remember that warm in Mid May (last year May 14th in the same area it was 14C and I got 6 walleyes).

So we fished various spots but it was a tough go and the guys we talked on the ramp did not do too good either (1-2 fish caught) .

Hoped for the evening bite but I guess all the walleyes went to watch the Leafs game and did not bother with feeding

Maybe it was the bug hatch

Anywho, it's just a first trip and the whole season is ahead to improve things.

A bit concerning with the water temps. Hope it's not a sign that the water will continue to warm up as we get into summer...it can get too warm and cause some problems with dissolved oxygen, etc.
The walleye watched the Leafs...and were sulking all day
