Report it if you see or catch one! And save the head and the eyes after you kill it.

The Great Lakes could be in big trouble if these invaders get going.

Honestly after watching the videos of what they’ve done in southern watersheds, nothing scares me more as a fisherman then if they invade the Great Lakes.

I don’t want to scare but people have been seeing them. 💯 % legit reports of them. Very scary, we all got to help keep our eyes on this problem! The sooner we’re on the case the better is what I’ve been told from Invasive Species Centre! Thanks for caring. My livelihood, our economy and most importantly our fishery depends on us to help out wherever we can. 👊

Hey Taro, any chance you can divulge where these sightings are occurring?

ya, this is actually a 10 year old topic

so

1 there are several Asian carp invasives.....the silver carp is the worst and the one that flys out of the water by the thousands in the Illinois river

2...has the sale of asian carp stopped....was a big item few years ago and now pretty quiet

3...there has been documentation of these invaders in the great lakes, but exact species not always identified properly

4 the electric barrier is the last line of defense against this species.....we could do better

5. they are prolific breeders and have eaten most of the available food in the river to them and are now starving and stunted. they are plankton eaters only

accidently released from a fish farm in southern USA after a flood and are along the entire Mississippi river and tribs

The Asian carp will never never able to take over great lakes, unless the water in Great lakes become full of plankton and phytoplankton (become a soup).
These fish cannot survive without their food: phytoplankton.
They can populate small lakes around Great lakes but will never be able to take over the main basins of the great lakes. Lake Erie with it shallow depth can be more in trouble, and area like Long Point with lots of vegetation yes, that can be destroyed by those fish, but the open basin it is not a proper habitat for Asian Carp.
You can see that with Regular/common carp as well. It thrives only in weedy, shallow, warm places with lots of vegetation and phytoplankton.
So yea it is not just gloom and doom.
A small lake like Scugog swamp can be overwhelm by this kind of fish.

but they will migrate all along shorelines and being such a prolific breeder can easily get into other systems with minimal issues

ant there is phytoplankton in the lakes, not like in the usa, but perhaps enough

we just don'y need them, already got enough invasive stuff

I think you can go to “Invasive Species Centre” page on Facebook. From there you can message them and they can tell you actual scientific data on where they’ve actually found them. Not just us guys saying “I think I saw one when I was bass fishing” lol. Hope this helps!
