Today I hit lake O.

As soon as I was on the lake I had the feeling to go deep as the surface temp was 67 Fahrenheit. I know lately the last week their had been an amazing bite 60-70 feet down in 100-150 fow.
The grind started and my fishing buddy and I washed everything we owned. We changed baits, speeds, flashers distances etc. We hit three shakers which made us hopeful but I had this nagging feeling to go deeper and that it was to warm where we were. Of course we fell into the trap of grinding and not moving.
I don’t own a fish hawk so I depend a bit on putting the puzzle together but I didn’t trust my gut. We did terrible.
In the end we got reports that temps were over 60 Fahrenheit 100 feet down so we were trolling soup. At 120’ it was mid to low 50’s and people hit fish. A solid thermocline seems to be set up.

Ah listen to your gut is my lesson of the day. Second lesson is make more money and buy a fish hawk. 😂😂😂.

Anyone got one for sale?? 😒

You can get the $200 clip on one that goes down and you bring back up to see the temps at various depths I have been using mine for summer fishing as well to find temp breaks for walleye and Lakers.

I have had 2 skunks lately on lake O. The grind is to easy to get stuck in when you have sooo much line out its no fun to bring in. My gut has been telling to to go out deep i have been fishing 65 to 160 checking things out. Something changed recently probably the thermocline. Skunks are soo rare on lake O I can't believe my luck with 2 in a row.

Great report Disco. Sometimes you learn more not catching fish but it’s not as fun. Don’t beat yourself up over it...... I’m sure you will make up for it next time.

I wish I did make up for it the next time.

I went out the next day with renewed hope.

I went deeper and hit 4 fish. Every single one came unbuttoned.
The last one hit on the rigger while I was putting a cheater on so that was fun. Took the line right out from between my fingers.

Well,if it’s any consolation that could have been worse. I was taking a stacker off after reeling in what I thought was a false release and the fish tightened the line and drove a huge siwash into the heel of my hand snapping twenty pound line. We got the fish but it wasn’t pretty coming out.

good on you for posting glitches when fishing as well as great days......

I just got back and yep, the lake is nuts....

I don't believe it's a thermocline yet, but rather warm water being pushed down due to all the crazy winds we have been getting.

for instance today fish were all over the place.....45 feet to 120 feet and so were the down temps.....we just need stable weather for 3 days and it should reset, but that's asking a lot this year

Fish hawks are worth their weight in gold when you're fishing for salmon on Lake Ontario. Hey, you could always go to the bottom and get lake trout
