Lovesick Lake - Sept 26, 2020, Muskie, dinkfest

First off - yes that says something other than Sturgeon Lake.

I’d never fished this particular lake before so wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Launched my kayak just before sun up and started the day out with a small walleye on my second cast.

Water was like glass in the morning - winds picked up a little in the afternoon, but still very calm.

Lots of islands and big rocks - some just peaking out of the water and others just under. For motorized boats - strongly recommend keeping to the channel. Some very deep holes, but also lots of areas with weeds.

Caught a lot of bass - mostly smallies, but a few largies as well. Unfortunately, all the bass were dinks - my best today might have been 14 inches tops.

I also went 1 for 1 on muskie - short story below.

Muskie - caught on a chatterbait looking for bass just off the main channel. Scared the crap out of me because it hit right next to the boat as I was about to pull my bait to cast again - swirled and got partly out of the water right beside me.

Luckily hooked right in the side of the mouth and it didn’t ever get at my leader or I would have lost the fish and my lure.

Sorry for the poor photo. It was too big for my net, I didn’t want to bring it in the kayak and I was on my own.

Unhooked beside the boat and swam away full of energy to be caught again.

Last thing for now. Highly recommended for kayakers - especially during the fall. Very picturesque and lots of interesting areas that kayakers can get to.

Thanks for the story Skippy. I live quite close to Lovesick but have never fished it. Where are you parking and launching?? Just off hwy 28 at Burleigh Falls?

That’s where I launched from - lock 28. $2 to park. I was there early so there were plenty of spots, but when I came back in it was pretty packed.

I agree, nice lake for kayakers. You can paddle all the way to the ladder at Wolf Island.
Never caught big bass there

Thanks for the input guys. For some reason I am thinking my buddy fished in there last summer and said the same thing about fish size.
