Hey all,
The wife gave me the go ahead to go fishing Sunday morning for Father's day. I was thinking of trying the grand river in the dunnville area because I went there as a kid once about 20 years ago and I remember having a good time. I just have a 12 ft aluminum and a 9.9, but I figure it should be fine for the river. Does anyone have any idea where I can launch from and what species I can target there? Thanks in advance for any info.

There is a few places to launch from Caledonia to Port Maitland. Just google it to see what is open and cost. As for fish, I have fished the entire Grand River. I prefer and have had best luck from Grand Valley to Brantford but you will find many fish down there. Bass is out of season as well there are always some areas that may be closed. Check with GRCA for anything new. There is big pike and walleye, good crappie fishing, and other pan fish as well and catfish and trout. Again I do not know about any off limit areas so you can check. Also the water on the Grand can change fast. I have fished from shore, canoes, fanboats, and small boats. The Grand River water can change quickly...LIFE JACKET...Your weather should be good. Good luck and stay safe.

I was just down there a couple weeks ago. There is a marina (Dunnville Boat Club) just below the dam. I'd recommend launching there as it's below the dam and you can make your way down river to Port Maitland. I believe there's also a free public launch just upstream of the dam as well. When I was there we trolled along the shore (in about 10-12ft) and caught a few nice walleye.

Hey bgnipp,
Is the dunnville boat club open early? Their website says its open at 9, but I know sometimes launches are open earlier. I tried calling, but no one picks up. Must be too late.

It turned out to be a good day. Caught 10 walleye, 2 pike (one being about 35"), 4 sheepshead and a crappie. Enough to make my father's day a good one.

I went out for the evening so I'm not 100% sure. You pay the fee there via envelope into a locked box so I imagine you can launch there even before opening hours.
