Launched in Gull river, there was so much wind even in the river. Caught some bass and my friend caught two muskie. Beautiful fish, not monsters but great fighters. One was 37 inches, the other 38 inches. Went all the way into north Balsam and holy cow biggest waves I have fished in years. Decided not to stay out there after dark, better safe than sorry. It was so windy we got wet from the wave spray. My friend went home and I went to the south end and hid from the wind in the trees. Got wet again from the rain later, but it stayed warm and muggy. Caught some crappie and kept two rock bass to try, three smaller walleye released. Some of you have told me that rock bass are great to eat. Going to get some sleep and fish later. My legs feel like rubber from the rollercoaster boat ride on the waves last night. LOL. |

This is one of the smaller walleye released, maybe 19 inches. Should be big enough in two years to keep. |

Nice… Sounds like tough conditions. |

Nice outing CM. That lake sure can get rough even in places you think you can hide from the weather |

rock bass are really good to eat but those look a little small. |

Thanks Fnh. It was interesting, that's for sure. Got a bit wet again tonight. It was raining again. Not hard rain, more like drizzle after midnight. |

Thanks flexkk, hard to hide last night. Much less wind tonight up until an hour ago. Gave up early, very tired. And a musky showed up. |

Yup very small, just wanted to try it and see how it tastes. Maybe when I wake up later. |

Wednesday night was great. Crappie and walleye but a musky spoiled the fishing about an hour ago. Wasn't very big, about 36 inches. Released around the same spot as the walleye from Tuesday night. |

Thursday night was a skunk. Started at 4pm and finished now. Two rock bass, 2 very small walleye and 1 bluegill. Going to get some much needed sleep now. |

Some decent fishing the other nights but sorry to hear about the skunk. Do you think the best fishing is over for now with the colder temps coming? I think we are suppose to get down to -4 to -6oC tonight depending on location. |

That's a good one, helped me wake up, thank you. You said previously you live close to Balsam. If I lived up there year round, I would never get a good night's sleep ever again. |

Thank you Flukes, Tuesday and Wednesday were great, Thursday was just weird. Last night was cold. Oh it got cold last night, had to give up just after 2am. Too much ice on all three rods and reels. Do I think the best fishing is over. Nope, still good fishing for two more weeks. If we are really lucky, maybe until the end of the month. The Kawartha Lakes turned over early last year because of the colder weather. The lakes are cold right now, but not as cold as usual for this time of year. Went to Sturgeon last night and the fishing was good. I will post the details in a bit. Good luck if you are planning to fish some more this month. Stay safe. Thanks to my family for letting me eat, sleep, and fish this week. Not done yet, one more night to go. |

Yep, it's getting much colder (esp. the overnight temps). I do remember many years back now, ice fishing on Chemong before bass season closed. It was a great day for crappie, bluegills and LM bass that day, first time that I was able to keep bass ice fishing on that lake. I agree. When we can fish, there is the family side that allows it to happen - after a few years, it's been great to be able to get out on the water again to get some fishing done even if only for a couple of hours at a time. |

With the season coming to an end, they understand me being absent. Last five days was sleep, eat a late lunch, then fish all or most of the evening and night. It was cold again tonight, just got back. Going to put Friday and tonight on a new thread, while watching the hockey highlites. |

My Grandfather made me keep rock bass as a kid when I'd spend 3 weeks with them in Fenlon. I'd come home with a bucket full everyday, and theyd eat em' all summer. Use to catch huge ones below the damn......thx for the memories I had forgotten:). |

One of my first memories as a child was fishing at my grandfathers in New Brunswick. Either in the rivers for freshwater fish, or in his back yard which was right on Chaleur Bay. You could get almost anything in the bay. Digging mussels out of the sand and a large variety of saltwater fish right off the beach. Now you are the one bringing back the great memories, thank you. |
