Hey everyone. Was able to get out on Sturgeon yesterday with one of my friends. We decided to rent a pontoon and at first, I was very skeptical about Musky fishing out of pontoon but it was a lot better than I thought. With that being said, I will never rent a boat again from Fish N' Rest. They charged us $2.45 per litre of gas at the end of the day. We were expecting to pay no more than $40 for the gas used but it came up to $86. In hindsight, we should have asked him much they charge but we have never experienced this crazy fee before.

Anyways, the day started off pretty calm so we decided to try our favorite weed line. After about 30 minutes, I had a Musky on. But some how this clever little thing buried me in weeds and shook off.

About an hour later, had another Musky follow me right to the boat and I began the figure 8 and she bit and was hooked. Could this be my first figured 8 Muskie? Nope!! She was barely hooked and came off after thrashing around by the boat.

A few hours later, some really dark clouds were approaching and soon over us. We knew they were calling for rain and high winds around this time.

I continued to cast my bucktail and then Wham!! That was then followed by two acrobatic flops out of the water. But it happened so fast and my heart was racing so I didn't get a good glimpse of her. She then stayed down for a bit prompting me to believe she was a big girl. My friend quickly grabbed the net and she was boated.

She measured in at 32 inches and had a thick body. She put up a good fight for her size and I was thrilled to land her because as soon as I realeased her, the rain started to come down.

In a matter of minutes, it began to pour down and the wind picked up significantly and here came the whitecaps. We quickly decided to head over to the river as quickly as possible to seek shelter.

This is where a good day turned a bit sour as we returned the pontoon and were told about the gas price.

All in all, it was a great day on my favorite Musky lake but unfortunately for Fish N Rest, they will never get our business again.

So I assume the gas price was on top of the rental price?

Yes it was. $175 +tax for the pontoon and then $86 for the gas

Good stuff getting one but sounds like an expensive day. That gas coming in unexpected would be the worst

Sucks about the gas price, but Iím sure thereís been more than enough people that have spent more than $300 and not got a musky....hope that took away a little of the sting, lol. Beautiful colours on that chunk, well done

Good stuff! Well written! I pay a little over $1.50 at the marina. It's dropped to $1.48 at the moment though! Nowhere near that crazy price, but at 2mpg, I do run up a gas bill that can give you gas!!! Just not economical for me to troll, so we usually drift or anchor. The wind has been a killer on Sturgeon this summer for sure.
