Someone was asking a little while ago about fishing and boating in Toronto harbor and I remembered that I am renewing my Toronto harbour permit every year but have not fished the harbour from a boat in the last two years. So I decided to give it a try and check out how Mr. Pike was doing out there.

I launched at Ashbridges and after a 14 km ride I was in the harbor. Since the speed in the harbor is limited to 10 -19 km/h it took me a while to cross the inner harbor. Next time I will use a launch at Humber as itís closer.

The pike was still there but it was in a wary mood and was not rushing to my lures. Eventually I was able to catch 4 pikes in deeper weedbeds with only one being of a decent size of about 6-7 lb.

5-6Ē deeper running jerkbaits twitched with longer pauses did the trick.

All in all was good to get out and enjoy downtown evening view from the water.

Stay safe out there guys and good fishing to you.

Thanks for sharing this. I've wanted to get to the Inner Harbour for some smallies, but haven't gotten my license yet, plus I have no idea where to launch where I'm not boating for an hour just to get there. My bass boat isn't really built to fight the waves likely to come up in open water of Lake O.

Your best bet would be to launch from Humber launch then . Itís about 6 km to the inner harbour entrance on the west side near the island airport . You definitely have to watch the wind .

Wow, nice Pike. I caught a Pike as well, not as big as yours. Never went back due to the harbour due to the horrible boat traffic getting there ( western gap was a challenge for my 16 footer as it was rocking like crazy. Of course it was on a week-end with lots of tour boats and large cruisers coming and going. A week-day the water would have much calmer water.

In hindsight, though, maybe I shouldn't have let me Harbour license expire a couple of yrs ago.

Cheers,

I also have a 16 footer and only fish inner harbour in the off season for pike, mainly in Oct-Dec and in March and May, when the boat traffic is minimal. Summer and especially summer weekends is a no go for me there as it's crazy out there.

Can you imagine being in a low-sided bass boat in all of that traffic? I'd be swamped in no time! No Thanks!!!
