Going Bass fishing in the dark now. It is still very windy and only 7 degrees and it rained at the house.. Had a good sleep finaly so I can fish now. Have no idea where the bass are biting yet but will try Balsam first. Feels like November out there. BRRRRRR.

Good luck CM and let us know how you did .

Yes zone 17 bass is open from today .

We went to a smaller lake yesterday after 5 pm with a buddy on a 16 footer boat after the wind diminished a bit and took all the precautions
It was not that bad until about 10 pm when the wind started hauling at 40 km or smth so we decided to hide on the west side of lake but then the wind changed direction and became NW almost N direction so we call it quits at about 12 am
No walleye but lots of pike some nice largies and one 2 lb crappie
Stay safe out there and know your limits, the water body and your boat capabilities

If in doubt stay on shore in those winds .

PS. I would not be able to fish in those winds if I did not have 24V Terrova I-pilot.

Thank you guys for the comments and that is a great picture of the crappie JB. So as I said got some sleep went fishing with a friend he caught 1 walleye 16 inches at dusk. He left when it started to rain. I kept fishing it was brutal like a mini hurricane. Wind and huge wind gusts and water in your face. Caught some very nice walleye but they were all too big to keep on Sturgeon. A few blue gills lots of rock bass and crappie. After a long few hours went back to the house to change and eat some food. Went to Balsam and there was no signs that it rained at all. Dry as a bone and it's only 15 minutes from Sturgeon. Started fishing for bass in the dark still very windy but from the north. Slip bobber and a 10 inch zoom worm floating it over the tops of the weeds. Bass started hitting the worm about two hours before sunrise. Many many fired up big bass and non stop action for a few hours. There was a few big crappie mixed in with the bass. You can tell it's a crappie when they play with the zoom worm for a few minutes and you have to set the hook and get lucky because the worm is never all the way in their mouth like a bass. I did not keep any crappie last night from Balsam or Sturgeon as there is lots in the freezer. I should have kept a big one for breakfast but was too tired to eat anyway. Here is a picture of the bass the family will eat a few for dinner. I am eating a huge steak then going fishing.

Great bass opener for you, CM, and nice reward for toughing out the brutal wind and weather conditions!

The bass was very active Friday after dinner time but we were in zone 16 lake so we did not target them and they were just caught incidentally in deeper weedbeds where they were mixed with pike

I went to Balsam today to try our luck. I fished with a friend who hasn't fished in a few years due to Covid. I got four walleye, a jumbo perch, and a 4lb bass. My friend was getting frustrated, as I kept saying "Get the net!", and he wasn't even getting bites. He finally landed a walleye around 2 pm. We kept one walleye above and another just under slot size, plus the bass. My in laws are liking the extra fish I am catching this year, as they get ready to cook fish, once I clean them up. I t has been a bonus year so far for me, as i am catching about triple the amount of fish compared to last year.

It was cool on the water, and the wind was a bit gusty, but no whitecaps and manageable. However, we did keep our lifejackets on, as when it gusted, it was sudden. Not too many boats on the water due to Fathers day as well, so maybe that was why I did so well today. I'll take it, whatever the reason. Orange colour worm harness, and a silver canadian wiggler did all the damage, the same as the past three weeks.

Stayed home and did the floor. Cold front and crazy wind is too much for my 14 footer.
