Two friends asked me about walleye fishing tonight on Balsam and Sturgeon. At 7pm wind is 25kph NW and by 2am it is down to 15kph NW. No mosquitoes on the water and many walleye under the surface tonight. Pick your favourite spot and just let the wind do its job. Drift over your spot again and again. Casting or just jigging from 7pm until 9pm after that the walleye will be shallow. What I mean by shallow is watch the rocks. Put your boat in 5 or 6 feet of water and cast to where it is 2 or 3 feet deep. If you are using minnows or leeches put them 3 feet under the surface in 5 or 6 feet of water. In between you and the shore opprox. 30 yards you will find walleye tonight and they will hit hard. This is a perfect walleye night, too bad I am stuck working. My friends said they would let me know if my walleye forecast is correct for tonight. Good luck and stay safe. I'm off to work soon.

Good tips, thank you. I'm still learning walleye fishing, got some experience in certain seasons and lakes but still getting hard times to find or catch them in some lakes and in June especially.

Actually, going for Cottage vacation next week, gonna fish in Pickerel River, last year couldn't find walleye in the end of June. Would appropriate any recommendations for that area.

Got a report back from three friends. Two of them caught walleye from around dinner until dark. But nothing after dark. The other caught walleye from 8pm until after dark late, and all three brought a few home for dinner. The friend that caught walleye in the dark was fishing in waist deep water very shallow as I said. It took him a while to get keepers but he left with 2 nice ones. And now it's time to start getting ready to go to work again. Sure am glad to go to work tonight blah blah blah. Walleye fishing is going to be good again tonight, exactly the same as last night. Only difference tonight is you will have to sneak up on the walleye. There won't be as much wind tonight, the walleye will still hit hard but you will have to slow down your retrieve to get results tonight. Remember slow and steady wins the race...... and catches the walleye. Good luck and stay safe.

CM you are like the walleye whisperer, thanks for all the great info. I plan on fishing Balsam from 7pm until dark on Friday night, i hope it goes well for me, i will try shallow just off of a weed bed. If i get skunked i will try Saturday.

Well it is easy for me to predict what walleye will do...BUT...That does not mean I will be right all of the time. LOL. I am 90% better then the weather man though. LOL. As said earlier the walleye will hit tonight but a slow retrieve and stay off the motor or other noises, and tomorrow as well. Drift fishing and jigs would be best. As for Saturday and Sunday jerk baits and crank baits are your best bet because the walleye will be hunting and will come up for your baits. You can also rip through the weeds with 1/4 ounce buck tails, but who wants to do that in the heat. Don't forget the sun screen and water and bug spray, there will be mosquitoes the next four days. Walleye fishing takes time and patience on Sturgeon and Balsam, it's not like it was 30, 40, 50 years ago. Good luck all, stay safe.

I always had great results trolling fat raps at night on the shore side of the weed beds and smithwick rogues on the lake side during the day. Managed several Muskie during the mid afternoons to.
