Went to Sturgeon for a few hours and got 4 out of 6. Took home 3 in the slot.
Water is 23-24C .Fished deeper weedbeds with my home-made spinner.
Anyone having any luck lately?
Looks like the fish is scattered around and you really have to work for them to find them.

Take home . The sunnies were very active trying to nip on my plastic worm. Caught many and took home two.

Hey Iím on sturgeon right now. Here with the family doing some fishing. Never fished the lake before. Iv gotten 1 walleye 16.5Ē threw it back and 1 largemouth. Iv fished about 4hours since Iíve got here. Donít know how everyone fishes warm harness new to it. Always getting caught in the weeds so annoying. Not a weedy lake fisherman. My addiction is the rivers or open deep water. Trying to figure this weedy type best I can.

Hey 1stdrift,

The below is a pic of some of my home made spinner rigs, since I do not troll for walleye but cast.

i just use a piece of strong thick wire, a blade, a few beads, a bullet weight (mainly tungsten) in 1/4-1/2 range, a split ring and baitholder hook size 1 or 1/0.

On the bottom is modified mepps spinner.

you can bait the hook with half crawler or leech but I prefer a plastic scented grub or worm as it holds much longer

there are other effective techniques for fishing weed walleye, such as rip jigging etc but they require more practice and hard for the novice weed fisher

Lucky you had that nice breeze out there and you caught some fish, that's a bonus. My one friend has been catching many walleye, but three others have not been doing so well lately. I have not been fishing since June 18th. Too much going on right now, but can't wait to get back at it in a couple of weeks. I HOPE LOL.

I love fishing Sturgeon, but don't like weeds much as well. In general I don't start fishing for walleye until later in the day and at night. After dinner hours you can also try crank or jerk baits that just go down far enough to hit the tops of the weeds. Or plastic baits under a slip bobber just deep enough to hit the those weed tops. A slower presentation works better as the night roles in. These successful methods I have not changed in decades, but I do fish in lower light and mostly all night. If you fish during the day for walleye follow what JB says he knows his walleye. If I went in a walleye tournament, I would pick him to be my partner.

Well I fished from 4-830 lost one small sized something. Gave them everything. All sorts of spinners, worms/minnows on a bobber at different depths, Crank baits, bucktails all sorts of colours probably tried over 50 different lures thatís ideal for weed type of fishing and nothing not even a single Hit. Tried weedless hooks wasnít much of a difference. weeds are driving me nuts. For all you fisherwomen/men hats off to you who fish the weeds. My wife and I cleared out half the lake of weeds with our lures so anyone whoís coming to fish the lake soon you wonít have to deal with any!!! At least you donít snag them so bad you loose your lures. Gonna head out tonight also if weather allows go catch some more weeds . On a side note my 5yr old has caught probably over 70 sunfish, which some are huge hahahaha!!

JB looks like you did well. I have been on vacation this week and next on Balsam the fishing has been good. I went out last night (Tuesday) and the weather had changed a bit and got rough on the lake , it was the only day i didnít get anything. I have been getting walleye fairly steady. Also smallmouth and pike mixed in. Worm harness cast in the weeds weighted down with a couple split shot seems to be a good go to,also jig and worm or jig and plastic. I went through the locks to Cameron and fished it for a few hours Sunday. Ended up catching 5 walleye and 2 bass and some bluegill, i got lucky for my first time. I usually use minnows but have been having enough luck with worms , so i havenít need to worry about minnows. Temperature on balsam is around 24

You got me interested in this. I been reading your post and cm on walleye and they have not been bad advice for nighttime. It is hit and miss some evenings but how shallow I have been catching surprise me. I will have to give this a shot as well on sturgeon. I used to throw these all the time when I was younger for pike and bass. Itís the same therory as a harness so I canít see it not working!!

Thanks for the compliments CM, but there much better walleye anglers out there.
