QUOTE (1stdrift @ Jul 20, 2022 - 09:18 am)
Well I fished from 4-830 lost one small sized something. Gave them  everything.  All sorts of spinners, worms/minnows on a bobber at different depths, Crank baits, bucktails all sorts of colours probably tried over 50 different lures  that’s ideal for weed type of fishing and nothing not even a single Hit. Tried weedless hooks wasn’t much of a difference. weeds are driving me nuts. For all you fisherwomen/men hats off to you who fish the weeds.  My wife and I cleared out half the lake of weeds with our lures so anyone who’s coming to fish the lake soon you won’t have to deal with any!!! At least you don’t snag them so bad you loose your lures. Gonna head out tonight also if weather allows go catch some more weeds . On a side note my 5yr old has caught probably over 70 sunfish, which some are huge hahahaha!!

Looks like your son did much better than the parents
I like your sense of humor and positive attitude! '
After all it's all about having fun on the water and enjoying the time with the family together.
Perhaps you've tried too hard. Maybe try to fish a bit deeper with lesser weed growth around or soon the fish on Sturgeon will have no place to live
Good luck tonight and enjoy your vacation with family!

JB looks like you did well. I have been on vacation this week and next on Balsam the fishing has been good. I went out last night (Tuesday) and the weather had changed a bit and got rough on the lake , it was the only day i didn’t get anything. I have been getting walleye fairly steady. Also smallmouth and pike mixed in. Worm harness cast in the weeds weighted down with a couple split shot seems to be a good go to,also jig and worm or jig and plastic. I went through the locks to Cameron and fished it for a few hours Sunday. Ended up catching 5 walleye and 2 bass and some bluegill, i got lucky for my first time. I usually use minnows but have been having enough luck with worms , so i haven’t need to worry about minnows. Temperature on balsam is around 24

Thanks, Flexkk.

Nice going on Balsam and Cameron.

I have been only once to Cameron fishing for musky about 3 years ago and liked the lake so maybe I'll give it a try this season.

We just having the first real hot days of the summer this year so warmest water temps are still ahead of us so my prediction that the walleye bite will only pick up in August.

friends been to balsam on Saturday and got two walleyes - too much boat traffic.
On weekends i usually try to avoid Balsam and go to a less busy lake

Hey I’m on sturgeon right now. Here with the family doing some fishing. Never fished the lake before. Iv gotten 1 walleye 16.5” threw it back and 1 largemouth. Iv fished about 4hours since I’ve got here. Don’t know how everyone fishes warm harness new to it. Always getting caught in the weeds so annoying. Not a weedy lake fisherman. My addiction is the rivers or open deep water. Trying to figure this weedy type best I can.

I love fishing Sturgeon, but don't like weeds much as well. In general I don't start fishing for walleye until later in the day and at night. After dinner hours you can also try crank or jerk baits that just go down far enough to hit the tops of the weeds. Or plastic baits under a slip bobber just deep enough to hit the those weed tops. A slower presentation works better as the night roles in. These successful methods I have not changed in decades, but I do fish in lower light and mostly all night. If you fish during the day for walleye follow what JB says he knows his walleye. If I went in a walleye tournament, I would pick him to be my partner.

Thanks for the compliments CM, but there much better walleye anglers out there.

Well You and I against Tom Boley and one of his friends, fishing his favourite walleye spot. They might get us during the day, but after a late dinner and into the night, we win hands down every time. Just think of the ratio of walleye where he fishes, as to where we fish. There is a walleye under every weed out there where they make those videos. I would put money on us to win........ okay maybe not every time, just 90% of the time. LOL.

keep those big sunfish as they are really tasty.

You're right. those sunnies are yummy.
I should have kept more but just did not have time to clean that many...

I like your game plan, CM

Apparently, in Wisconsin and Minnesota, where Tom fishes there is quite a lot of fishing pressure as almost everyone is a fisherman there.

I have a buddy who lives in greater Minneapolis area and he was saying that in 2020 and 2021 there were huge line-ups on weekends to launch a boat in all of Central Minnesota lakes so one have to wait for more than 1.5-2 hours to launch.

Great looking lures and when you catch fish on homemades it feels even more rewarding.

My trout box definitely needs a couple of 1/2oz tungsten spinners. Thanks for the idea JB.

Great job JB!

I have not fished Ontario waters since June 25. Hopefully my ankle gets better next week and we can go to a cottage on French river. Never fished it and hope to get my first keeper walleye this year.

Thank you for sharing your spinner arsenal and the tips. I tried a similar way of fishing, but it did not work. I should give it another try and be more patient and not give up soon

I hope you get better soon and enjoy your time at French.
i am not an expert on French but I have been a few times there. Talk to resort owners and staff about the best walleye depths and areas, but generally, they are deeper than in Kawartha , I would suggest target 20-45 FOW around islands and shoals.
Bring worms- smallies are abundant there around the islands on drop offs and often willing to bite
Good luck!
