Not huge but my best from Nipissing. 6-7lb walleye from summer 2011.

Posted by: JayRay Feb 14, 2012 - 06:05 pm
Pulled this out of the ice 2 years ago. walleye 6-7 lbs again. Caught at night after a few pops - thus the goofy grin.

Caught this when my GF jumped overboard to swim to shore.....needless to say it was a chore coaxing her to swim back to the boat after this came out of the lake right where she was swimming....lol. I have caught many of these but this one was on the large end of the sizes I have seen on Nip. Fun to catch, but only good for one thing.....a healthy garden!

pike from nipissing

and the pickerel that almost got away last year. He fell off the line and my man drove his hand all the way down the hole and saved the catch. Team work.

Never did get a weight or measurement. We took a few quick pics, then back down the hole it went. It was heavy, though, I'd guess in the 8 lb range?
Hit right in the lull period (around 1:30-2 PM) I was almost falling asleep in the warm hut, when BAM...hit like a freakin' freight train, lol!

It was on a gold Mr Champ spoon. That said we caught four, during our stay, all on Swedish Pimples. That fish was on a mission, the way it hit, not sure if lure type mattered too much.
Kept one about 5 lbs to eat. Bit of a pain to clean, but, there is a great video on the Northern Lakes forum showing how to do it properly. We cut the meat into 1 - 1 1/2 inch chunks boiled in water, with some salt, then dipped in melted butter....yummy. biggrin.gif

No it came from waters right on the edge of the city. I used to fish a lot off the 63 hwy though and had some fantastic days fishing Splake, Specks and Bows, especially Splake! There are some fantastic Splake lakes that produce some great fishing. Lots of fun to be had flatlining at ice out and dragging around leech and minnow patterns on a fly rod is a blast. Lots of fish in the 2-4 pound range. My PB Laker came from the same area as the one in the picture trolling a traditional floating rapala in chartreuse/silver in 3 f.o.w shortly after ice out. Came in at 35"x20.5", 19 lbs.

A buddy of mine, pictured above holding a pike he caught this winter ice fishing at Idle Tyme, retired a couple of years ago and bought a place in Thorne right on the Ottawa River on the North side of the dam. I see all these little lakes along 63 on the way up to his place and I heard there were trout in some of these lakes that is why I asked. The traditional floating rapala, one of my favorite lures as well.

FatRap, remember to let me know if you come down this way this summer. I always fish off the dams, so maybe you guys can come by and have a beer and toss a few lures out with us.

Been very anxious to get out. Just bought myself the new Ugly Stik GX2, so i cant wait to try that! Really nice looking rod, and its an Ugly Stik, so you know your getting a premium quality rod.

My son's 15lb 33 inch Walleye with a 16 inch girth caught on a 10 inch black buck tail while fishing for Muskie on the western portion of Lake Of The Woods near Shoal Lake.A proud moment for me indeed and while I have been fishing for one myself this big over the last 35+ years it was much more satisfying to watch my son land this perhaps once in a lifetime trophy and make a memory worth it's weight in gold.

Hey Musky Jay.
Just had a look at your 'best' of photos. I recognize those photos of you and your Dad. I ran into you both at Lunge Lodge (upper French).......I'm guessing either August or September 2005 possibly 2006. My memory of muskie fishing trip that far back now is starting to get fussy. I know right where many of those photos were taken. As I recall you and your father fished out of that lodge/area fairly regularly.
Welcome aboard.

Hi Grumpa,
Yes. We still hang our hat at Lunge Lodge. New owners since back then and they have made some nice improvements to the place.

We visited B.C. this summer for my boys national ball hockey tournament so we decided to take a day and bring the boys fishing. My Buddy Pete organized it and man we couldn’t have picked a better guide. He had warned us that the fishing had been slow for most people on the Fraser and that 14 of 18 boats the day before came back skunked.

We did very well! Caught 3 before lunch all in around the 5’ and 100lb mark which still would have blown away my previous PB but nearing the end of the day we moved up river and hooked into and landed this 8’ 300lb beauty.

If you ever go to B.C. I would highly suggest sturgeon fishing on the Fraser. It was likely a once in a lifetime for me but I would do it again if I ever have the chance.

Been a couple years since I last posted in this forum so thought I'd post a short updated video of our replica mounts since I originally posted the Laker. Not all are PB catches, a couple just were done for the memory of the moment.
First up in the video is the Lake Trout I had done. It is to date still my PB and was caught while still living in North Bay. It was caught through the ice at the stepping stones in the narrows between Trout and Turtle lake.
Next up is a 20.5"/5lb-2oz PB Smallmouth from Trout Lake along with a 19.5"/4lb-3oz Largemouth caught through the ice on Wasi Lake. Next is a 7lb Coho caught while trolling off the Five Fingers Islands in Nanaimo,BC with my Grandfather. Next is a 28 5/8"/8lb-8oz Walleye I caught ice fishing at the Manitou's on Nip. followed by my PB Northern Pike caught ice fishing last year at Bronson Lake in Saskatchewan, the fish measured 40"x 22 5/8" and tipped the scale at 21lb-7oz and lastly is my PB Chinook Salmon taken while casting spoons along the shoreline of Lake Ontario in spring, it weighed 28.0lbs and measured 38" in length. All the fish were caught and released with the exception of the Coho, my Grandfather was not a C&R guy and that Coho was the biggest ever boated in all his years retired and fishing the waters around Vancouver Island. All replicas were done by Advanced Taxidermy in Caledon, Ontario.

The wife and i are going to target pike and musky while there. We have all the equipment and know how to handle these fish. Lots of hours of videos leading up to this trip. We are staying on the west side of the lake near west arm/west bay. This is a one and done trip as we are from London We will be hitting lake st claire moving forward and hoping to get into some of those monsters as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
