If going to back lakes, always go with a friend.

You have to have "something" to eat if you're broke down.

I would not put trax on a 400. Way too hard on your quad.
I think they recommend at least a 500cc.

I have a 700 AC and with the conditions in the bush this winter; I've been stuck multiple times on logging roads with no packed trail. It's no fun trying to dig out. Out on the lake, no problem cuz the snow gets packed from the wind.

If I were you, upgrade to a larger cc bike; the Honda 500 has power steering...and no need for a sled.

If going to back lakes, always go with a friend.

I was thinking the same thing, my quad would have to work too hard with tracks. I don't want to upgrade my bike because it's perfect for me and runs great. That's why I was thinking of the snow dog or tundra.

Thus far, I'm still not sure which one yet. Still getting feedback and waiting for some replies to some questions from the cops.

If your area gets slush forget the Snow Dog.
Speed & power are needed off the beaten paths.
Snow Dog doesn't have that.

So after a lot of phone calls, the MTO directed me to the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act.

In short: You must register the snow dog through service Ontario, have it insured, and registrations number displayed on both sides.

I guess a snow machine is the better choice.

The dealers should get educated on the legalities of selling these things as the non-suspected buyer will get a good fine if they follow the dealers advise and just start it up and head off.

Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M.44

“motorized snow vehicle” means a self-propelled vehicle designed to be driven primarily on snow; (“motoneige”)

“registration number” means a number or combination of letters and numbers allocated to a motorized snow vehicle by the Ministry on the registration thereof; (“numéro d’immatriculation”)

Dealer shall register
(2) Every dealer in motorized snow vehicles who sells a new motorized snow vehicle shall register the motorized snow vehicle on behalf of the purchaser thereof with the Ministry within six days following the sale. R.S.O. 1990, c. M.44, s. 2 (2).

Issuance of permits
(3) Upon registration of a motorized snow vehicle by a dealer pursuant to subsection (2) or by the owner of the motorized snow vehicle and upon payment of the fee prescribed by the regulations, the Minister or any person authorized by the Minister shall issue for the motorized snow vehicle a numbered permit in accordance with the regulations, bearing the registration number of the motorized snow vehicle and provide such evidence of the issue of the permit for display upon the motorized snow vehicle as may be prescribed by the regulations. R.S.O. 1990, c. M.44, s. 2 (3); 2000, c. 30, s. 2 (1).

Registration number to be displayed
(7) Every motorized snow vehicle, unless exempted under this Act or the regulations, shall have attached to or painted on both sides of the cowling in a clearly visible position a sign showing the registration number of the motorized snow vehicle in the form and manner prescribed in the regulations. R.S.O. 1990, c. M.44, s. 2 (7).
Offence
(6) Every person who contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine of not less than $200 and not more than $1,000. 2000, c. 30, s. 3

So the big question is if the Snowdog is designed to be driven primarily on snow? It's an arguable question depending how you look at it.

Camso makes a track system for smaller atvs now called R4S. I have the T4S system on my 570 and it works great. Just use your low range when needed (hills heavy loads)

If it wasn't designed for snow wouldn't it be called an alterrain dog.

Well, I got an returned call from Service Ontario on Friday, they said they checked with the main office in southern Ontario about the snow dog and since you don't ride on it, you DO NOT have to register it. Just like bringing your snow blower down the street. Just buy it and have fun.

Go figure.

Nice to know, at least someone in the bean palace is making good decisions.

Well, decision made...snow dog it is. I found a good deal in Chelmsford so had to pick it up. Been out with it a few time and it is awesome. Pulling my friend and I and our gear on and off the lake with a 420cc engine was a piece of cake.

Looking forward to using it more next year.

I can take everything at once including an extra person who sits backwards on the seat while I stand and drive (which is really easy).

Hi,
Nice setup. We have the same, only difference mine is the 10Hp unit, no reverse. .
Still can take three guys and full gear out.

A bit of help: on the towbar of the second sled at the Y install a 14" peace of bar for foot holder/foot rest for the backward sitting guy.

You will enjoy it.

That's a good idea. I'll have to do that. Thanks
