Got out on the water around 7.30, man it was cool to start. Mikey from the board had asked me earlier in the week if he could jump aboard and join me so we met up at the launch and headed out. Mikey was targeting Musky and myself smallmouth. We headed to one of my spots, a few casts in and Mikey says fish on get the net.... he lands.... Im guessing a 30 inch pike, ok.... it looks like it might be a good day, a few cast later and I say fish on no net needed for this one, a 1 pound bass, fished this spot for another hour and nothing, so we moved. Got th the second location and about a half hour in Mikey says fish on get the net, he thinks its another pike, when it gets closer to the boat its a musky, its a 40 incher, I manage 2 more smallies, fished until 1 pm, cool and windy morning.

The last 2 weekends have been tough fishing on Balsam. With the cold fronts that came through - fish weren't biting.

I tried everything this past weekend - top water, spinner, crawfish&worm on jigs, crank, stick - and went fast, slow, and all speeds in between.

I was about to call it a day on Sunday and just as a what-the-heck, threw out a tube. Bang - 4 lb smallie, then a couple other small ones.

I did see lots, and they were schooling up. They were camping on slate flats in 8 fow.

Joining me was my trusty fishing dog Snoopy. If you ever see us on the lake in a blue/white bowrider with a front platform (always out Saturdays and Sundays) come over and say hi.
