Good morning ladies and gents. I had the honor of fishing with Paul on Balsam Lake yesterday. If you don't know Paul, you're missing out. Talk about a great guy with a great personality to go along with that.

Met up with Paul at around 730am at Balsam Provincial Park. We then went to one of his spots and right away the action began. About 12 casts in, I had an aggressive strike. Was so sure it was Muskie but then realized it was a Pike roughly about 30 inches.

Right after that, Paul caught a Smallie and the day started off well. But, unfortunately, the winds were so strong that we had to seek cover.

No worries, Paul knew exactly where to go. As we approached the area, we noticed several other boats seeking cover there as well. Everyone was respectful and stayed out of each other's way.

We worked along a weedline standing in 15ft of water and casting into the shallows. About a few casts in, I felt a huge thump against my lure. I then set the hook and the fight was on. At first, I thought it was another Pike but definitely a lot bigger than that one.

As she got closer to the boat, the head shakes became really aggressive and then I realized it was a Muskie. This girl fought like a champ. She stayed down for a while and then finally came up to be netted.

We got her in quickly and we both noticed how thick she was as well as her beautiful color pattern.

We then measured her and she came in at 40 inches. She was quickly put back into the water after a few pics and off she swam to get bigger for the Fall feed.

Paul also did manage to land a few more Smallies with one of them pushing 3lbs or more but had the shape of a football.

All in all, it was a great day with Paul J

Nice job Mikey. Glad you were able to get some fishing in and land a pretty fish. Paul does seem to know the spots and seems to land quite a variety as well. I had the pleasure of losing three fish, one of which was a muskie (broke my lure). It was a windy and cold morning but overall still enjoyable to just get out.

Glad to see you there too, Phil. Hope you heal soon so you can be back on the water more often.

Sorry to hear you got broken off but the bites were so aggressive so it doesn't surprise me

Can't wait Hank. Pete and I will definitely have a game plan ready for the tourney. If you have more inches than me by lunchtime, your meal is on me

There are some nefarious fishermen out there who are intent on Hank not catching a fish until after lunch. Then he can have his 50".
