My son and I fished Sturgeon yesterday for muskies . We only boated 2 a 39” er and a 32” one but had action most of the day . My son caught the 39” er on the 5th cast of the day the lure was a 9” Doc topwater lure black with gold on the sides . We were on a big flat in 11 ft of water water temps were 58 . That fish cost me $5 ..when we muskie fish we have side bets $5 for a topwater fish also the same for a figure 8 fish and $10 for the biggest one of the week . Any how in the next 20 mins he had 2 more blow ups on that lure thhe one muskie blew up on it and followed it to the boat it looked to be mid 40” fish . My son quickly threw back a Toad which has baldging eyes and 2 curly tail like legs something like a bulldog . He jerked it 3 times felt a tick and pulled . When he got the toad in both legs were missing about 3/4 “ of the tips . I’m no dummy I put on a Walleye colored Doc about 15 mins I had one knock it up in the air but no hook up . We tried several other topwater lures whopper ploppers , jackpots and other prop baits . The only one we could get blow ups on was the doc maybe because it has rattles in it . We also had 2 hooked trolling but both got off even with or hooks sharp the one felt really heavy . We cast 80% of the time only troll to eat and when Dad gets tired throwing big lures . My son hates trolling . I had another big follow from a mid 40” fish no go on the 8 . So for the day we had contact with 12 muskies I’ll take that any fisshing day . Now for the funny part we launched at the park there were 6 guys on the dock fishing for Walleyes at dark when we were pulling out ask how we did .i said 2 small muskies he said you should fish here in the last 20 mins we caught a 44” and a 37” muskie right here on small rapala’s . I give up .

Hey that maybe true, sometimes one works hard from a boat all day long only to find out that shore fisherman is having a blast from where they sit. When I was camping this summer I have thrown a couple of lures on a small bay next to my camping ground and caught more fish than i did from my boat the day before. The guy fishing next to me said "they (some people) get those 40 thousand dollar boats to fish and yet we're catching the same fish right from here". I didn't know if the guy has a boat, but I'd have to agree with him at least on that day.

That 44incher must be a resident Muskie. I took my friend to Sturgeon a month ago and he caught a 44incher right off the dock as well.

May need to rethink the way I fish........lol
