Came across this today on Twitter:

Ontario has new bait regulations coming into effect on January 1st, 2022 that will help prevent the spread of invasive species through the use of live bait. While we wait for the lakes to ice up, now would be a good time to familiarize yourself with these changes.

You can learn about the new regulations in Ontario’s Sustainable Bait Management Strategy here:

https://www.ontario.ca/page/ontarios-sustai...t-strategy-2020

A must read for all anglers, especially if you are travelling to different areas for fishing.

Regardless, all anglers should be aware of the regulations pertaining to bait. Just sharing the info.

These guys ignored the regulations... their fault!

Pretty sure Algonquin has had a live bait ban forever, can't even use worms. And these nearby lakes fall under the same laws. My complaint is I basically have to buy my bait, if i'm not in my own zone. I should be able to catch my own bait in whatever zone I'm fishing.

Not true
In Algonquin - No live minnows
Worms are ok
Some special lakes are ‘only artificial lures’ (which means no worms, leeches, minnows etc. alive or dead)
