Good day fellow fisherpeople!!

My gf and I are heading up to Manitoulin Island for the week next week, I've only been up there once when I was a teenager.

Just wondering if anyone on this forum frequents the area, and if so how has the fishing been?

I've heard mixed reports - some saying it's nowhere near what it used to be there - pressured over time.

We will primarily be fishing Lake Manitou, as that is closest and biggest.

However, I remember we fished on a small backwoods type lake last time and caught a mess of perch for dinner. We also would like to try another one of the bigger lakes or 2.

We will also have our canoe so we can go onto the small lakes as well.

The water is so clear up there Im wondering if I will have to change my presentation, add flouro etc. to not spook the fish.

Anywho, any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

Tight lines!

For many years I went to Lake Manitou in May usually a week or 2 after ice out.

Had lots of luck on Lakers using green/silver spoons.

I never been this time of year.

I would run a floro leader just to add a bit more stealth.
You can most likely sight-fish for smallies on Manitou. Senkos, spinnerbaits etc work well.

I haven't tried in a number of years, but the north channel (if it's calm enough) should have salmon staging and/or running in the tribs.

Good luck!!
