I purchased my first fishing kayak in July and finally got it on the water in time to chase some staging salmon. Spent a couple hours last month trolling for kings but I only hooked up once and it broke me off. But... having a big fish hit while trolling in open water was such a rush! Those kings can really smash a lure and that fish instantly turned my kayak 180 degrees and started hauling me around.

Managed to get back on the water over the weekend. Trolling some smaller body baits looking for steelhead but no takers. Decided to get close to the river month and started casting small spoons. Tons of fish jump but also tons of SW wind so it was hard to stay in one spot. Finally hooked up and it was a brute. Landed my first fish in the new yak and it was a solid 7 or 8 lbs steelhead. The wind almost blew me right into someone's anchored boat so I pulled along side and posed for the glamour shot

I had so much fun on Saturday that I had to get back out on Sunday morning. Glad I did! Nailed another massive steelhead right at the river outflow. Took me on a ride and the fight lasted a long time. Sadly no glamour shot this time but I did get a weight on the fish. It was right on 10.5 lbs in the net so I'll call it just shy of 10 lbs without the net. Easily a new PB my a couple pounds!

Very cool to hear that the fish pulled the kayak... looking forward to that happening one day in my yak.
