So I want to lighten my line in prep for fall. I normally run a 8lb braid main line and 12lb flouro . I have 10 8 and 6 lb flouro. For the life of me I can not tie a successful knot that doesn't break when I pull it. I can tie 12 lb no issues.... No idea why same brand I tie a 10 it snaps. I can sometimes get a successful double uni. But when I tie to the hook it breaks. I use spit doesn't help. Forget about 6 and 8 lb. I've tried a bunch of knots but all unsuccessful . So right now I'm using 12. But anyone else have luck ya ng lighter flouro and with what knot? Or is mono a better choice for lighter.

This is for my finesse setup

Forget that knot you said. Google Alberto knot. Easier to tie. I have had no issues. For 3 years. Use spit when setting the knot. Like all. Trim excess. I read an article from Jeff gussy gustafson. Tite lines

I am always using FG knot when tying Fluro leader to braid line and had no issues with a 8-10 lb fluro

The tying method I use is this one shown in the video :

How old is the line , I find after 2/3 years with flouro and mono they tend to lose their strength and get somewhat brittle..

This is the one I tie, fast and the easiest one I found to tie..

I guess it depends on quality of fluro line
I use 12 lb Sunline fluro 200 yards spool for most of my leaders and it’s about 3 years old and I have no issues
I keep it away from sunlight in cool place (basement)

New flouro 8 and 10 . 6 1 year old.

I will learn FG knot and have not tried alberto knot

I normally use palamor for braid and uni or clinch knot for flouro

I have been using the double uni knot for tying two lines together for years and have never had a failure.....It is simple and great for tying braid to Flouro. Below is a simple video of it.

I had a similar problem when I switched some of my set ups to flouro (8 and 6 lb). I stated using an improved clinch knot. Easy to tie, and hasn't broken off on me yet. This is now my go to knot. Note that I do a modification of this by going through the eye of the hook twice, creating twice the strength at the hook.

All I use is double uni and never had a problem, you may have some bad flouro line.

Had the same issue as you. Exactly. I now use the trilene knot with 10lb fluoro and my issues are gone with bad knots. Lots of good input here. I too was losing patience...going lighter, but breaking off at the knot. Always used double uni between braid and fluoro. Never an issue there. My issue was always at the hook/jig

I’ve always used the palamor knot when tying mono/braid to hook/lure with no issues for years…… super strong, never breaks at the knot….

I also use Trilene knot for tying fluro leader to hook or a snap. Never had it break on me.

Reverse Albright knot all the way!!! So easy and quick. Super reliable. Some times it tangles on the braid but it’s worth it

Lots of good comments already in but I'll add my thoughts as well.

I also use the double uni and it's been fine. The 2 tips I'd give with it are. 1. Wet the line (like you said you do already) and 2. Make sure you wrap each side at least 4 times. Any thing less than that and I find it just falls apart. The more u wrap the line around the stronger it is but also the bigger it is and so if you wrap it like 7 times it will impeded your casting distance.

4 times is the magic number for me.

Hope you find one that works.
Cheers

I'll second this Albright knot:

"This is the one I tie, fast and the easiest one I found to tie..
https://youtu.be/6ZGSsksaWy8"

I tried Berkley's Fluoroshield lately and was frustrated getting any of my knots to stick. (P.S. - "There's a reason this stuff is half the price of real fluorocarbon -- don't was time/money here!") The Albright did hold, although the number of wraps needed was 7 - 9 for each line (not the 12 suggested -- large if using to attach to backing material).
