Hello everyone,

I promised some of my friends who haven't fished before that I would take them fishing and try and teach the most I can in 1 full day. I will be coming down from northern ontario and the plan is to rent a boat in one of the lakes around the kawarthas.

Looking at some general advice on which lakes would be most productive this time a year, from what ive read so far im hoping for some smallies but would like to give it a go for some pike and end the day with trying for some walleyes.

Obviously boat rentals are the biggest restriction for which lakes I can go to and any advice where to get good deals on those would be great as well.

Thanks.

Balsam is pretty good for pike and Muskie, most the kawarthas are good for Smallies. Not sure about Walleye though. I'm starting to think Walleye are just a myth.

I don't fish Rice Lake, but the fishing is supposed to be pretty good and there are a number of places to rent boats (Rice Lake Marine is about $150 for the day, depending on the size). I don't know if you can rent boats on Balsam. I'm there almost every weekend. I catch a fair number of walleye there, but usually slot size, so they have to go back.

Looks like there are marina's that offer boat rentals on Balsam (according to Google anyways). I've only actually fished the lake once but I've fished the gull river in Coboconk a bunch of times and there's a marina there that offers boat rentals as well. It doesn't take too long to get up to the lake from the river.

For newbies I always suggest a lake that has like in in.
They're fun, the fight, they're big and they're not picky or hard to find.
