Perch. Sometimes get some but not for numbers. I have only ever caught them with live minnows in the winter. Still waiting for that elusive crappy. If I didn’t have a place 100 yards away I would never fish this lake in the winter. The reason I’m using tip ups is because I have a 3 year old and a 6 year old.

I feel ya. I lived on the canal and tried that exact spot for crappie last winter, but no dice. Can't figure it out, people never seem to get them in the winter on Sturgeon. I've only ever heard of people catching them real shallow right before ice-off. Now that I moved (just to Reaboro), I suppose it's time I take the search elsewhere.

I went out today on sturgeon and drilled about 20 holes. I Walked around with the flasher and no luck. Ill keep at it, and let you know when i strike crappie gold.

Didn’t catch a fish but caught a nice pic. Again didn’t jig a rod as I had to look after kids. Got live minnows from Gerry at Kawartha bait and tackle but still no luck. Couple buddies caught a few down the lake. 5-6 inches in our area of ice.

Also walked out today. Drilled about 10 hole just checking ice, not fishing)farthest out had the most ice with about 6 inches. Closer to shore and north of pleasant point launch I found 4 with 2 inches of crust that broke as you walked. Fair amount of slush that way as well.

Move here recently beside Ken Reid. Any hazardous areas to avoid other than the obvious channels and rivers to avoid?
anywhere there is current, which on Sturgeon theres lots of current. The channel runs from Lindsay right to Snug Harbour basically, and that entire area would be dangerous all winter. Anything by Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon would also be dangerous. Anywhere it gets near dams basically, which there are 3.
Its also a wide big lake, so the middle would freeze last and be the thinnest.

I'm guessing we were the ones who spoke with you and your better half when you were walking on chemong and we were heading out. Hope you found the crappie that we can't seem to find
