Thanks for the reply. So I’m south west of green island. I would want to sled to the main lake via goose bay. Is goose bay taking the wider area (not the abandon cottage channel) better?
I have been checking the ice and it seems to be inconsistent at my shoreline. I’m debating is it the water run off from the land or scugog river lol

Perch. Sometimes get some but not for numbers. I have only ever caught them with live minnows in the winter. Still waiting for that elusive crappy. If I didn’t have a place 100 yards away I would never fish this lake in the winter. The reason I’m using tip ups is because I have a 3 year old and a 6 year old.
Try using tiny jig heads, tungston and micro plastics.

Didn’t catch a fish but caught a nice pic. Again didn’t jig a rod as I had to look after kids. Got live minnows from Gerry at Kawartha bait and tackle but still no luck. Couple buddies caught a few down the lake. 5-6 inches in our area of ice.
Nice pic. Havnt seen him since sept. Did he crack a smile

Some areas is 3-4” some is 1”
Pleasant point looked way better.
sounds like you live on the river. It never really freezes even on the coldest years. stay out of the channel area for sure. You might be okay to go up the west side of Goose bay, but Im not sure.

Thanks for the advice, yes I’m at the end of the river. Already seen a couple people starting to get out on their machines in goose bay. I will wait a week or two to be a bit more cautious. I can see closer to alpine RV resort the ice is very sketchy as you see wet spots on the ice
Once simcoe freezes I will feel a lot more comfortable!!

Found 6 inches down to 4 inches on Tuesday on my way out to the basin. Also found No Crappy but did get a tiny walleye. 6 hours around this area.
Illegal to fish for walleye in Winter on Kawartha Lakes my friend. Sunfish only.
I clearly stated I was looking for crappy. No where did I say I kept the walleye which I did not.
Maybe not clearly, lol. But I did insinuate I was looking for Crappy and found a tiny walleye. If I wanted to target walleye I would not head out to the middle of the lake.

9 inches of ice, 4 permanent huts down snug harbour and the landings way, lots of sleds out and people walking the shore, honestly I’m surprised the traffic I’m seeing in the channel but who am I to judge.

Got into a bunch of perch the last couple days. Nothing really to keep but was fun for the little guy. Seemed to hit from 3:30 until 5:00pm. Lots of perm huts now and people enjoying the outdoors over the weekend. Basically 8-10 inches anywhere I drilled. Saw a lot of pop up huts in goose bay, snug harbour and long beach area as well. I’m not one to go across lakes on sleds but many people have been.

Made it out of goose bay on Sunday
Center part of goose bay was 8+ inches but when I reached the mouth of goose bay I didn’t stop lol. Followed all the other snowmobile trails on the West Bank. They all seemed to be coming out from Mc Larens creek.
Thanks for the tips, now I will have to punch some holes and find a crappie spot
