Just got a call from a friend from the Fish Bay/Hunters Bay area and he told me he was pulling stuck machines off the lake a good portion of the day. He knew I was heading out tomorrow and gave me the heads up. Said previously traveled trails seem to be ok but not to venture off of them. I’ll give an update when I get out tomorrow. How are conditions where you folks are?

Thanks. Hoping to head out on Sunday.
What types of machines? Mostly wheeled? or snowmobiles as well?

I have a SWT Scandic (156 inch by 24 inch track) with skins and studs - Handles slush quite well and laughs at deep snow but i feel like the warmish temps and the tons of snow the slush conditions could be epic. I do tend to head off the beaten path as well so will be watching for your update.

My friend uses a tracked ATV and was pulling snowmobiles out. Said he also got stuck a few times and had to shovel out. I’m only going to my place on Hunters Bay but I should be able to give you an idea on traveling.

Thanks,
Probably sleds not set up for slush. My sled handles slush better than any tracked ATV i've seen so might be alright.

Yup I was out yesterday and there was lots of slush in spots. We didn't get stuck pulling 2 sleighs but a few times you could feel the machine slow down. Good luck.

It is snowing pretty good right now adding to the depth. There is a pretty good sized green spot on the radar too. Calling for rain tomorrow to make things more interesting. There were lots of sleds going by yesterday but all looked like they were on the main trails.

Just crossed with my brother who was a good man to come out and back me up just in case. We stayed on the marked trail and it was ok. But when we veered off trail to my place we immediately started dropping through the snow to slush. We kept speed up and managed to make it to the island. I’d certainly not go anywhere off trail by myself at this point, you are asking for trouble no matter what you are operating. Use caution everyone.

Just got back from Sunset, starts out ok. and then turns to total crap. With the right machine away from the main trail you would prob. be o.k. Move fast and don't slow down.Me with an old indy 500,wife and trailer it was a nightmare.I can't believe we got out and back.At one point we were paddle boating and i was fred flintstoning the machine. Good luck out there guys.

Only fished 1-4pm and not my usual spot. 1 perch. For me the bite has been super late this year, like 1 hr before dark and less.We were concerned with getting off so left early.Enough excitement for Wifey , none with the fishing

Glad to hear you're back safe and sound. With negative temperatures for every night next week, would you guys think it will be ok for the weekend? Looking for a end season trip to Nip...the bite has to pick up pretty good, spring is coming.

I’ve had a place on The Nip since 2015 and worse I’ve seen for slush. Deep slop bring tall boots for sure. If weather stays cold the weekend maybe good but be aware. On that note . 6 pike and 12 eyes no keepers
