In my opinion, if I rent an ice condo and fish outside….. It would not be “a fishing hut” therefore I would be sleeping in a hotel! Any thoughts on looking at it that way?

The law makers wonder why no one takes them serious.

Short-term rentals

5. (1) Businesses providing short-term rental accommodation may open if they comply with the following conditions:

1. Rentals must only be provided to individuals who are in need of housing.

2. Any indoor pools, communal steam rooms, saunas or indoor whirlpools, indoor fitness centres, or other indoor recreational facilities that are part of the operation of these businesses, are closed.

(2) Paragraph 1 of subsection (1) does not apply with respect to hotels, motels, lodges, resorts and other shared rental accommodation, including student residences, but does apply with respect to cabins and cottages.

Regarding the bungalows. IMHO.

the bungalow is not a hotel or motel. it would be classified as a cabin or cottage. as per subsection one you can only stay in a cottage or cabin in you are in need of housing. Its a pretty grey area but i think if i could state that i was traveling and i'm in need of housing. just happens to be out in the middle of the lake....

Scheduled to go Jan 21 though 23rd.

Checked with our operator and received the following:

"We are not ice huts, we are ice bungalows/lodges with full facilities like a motel/hotel. We are subject to 5 person Max though"

5 members, fully vaxed, from the same household…. to fish inside and outside a 10 x 20 bungalow.

… but 4 of my buddies, vaxed or not, can come to my house, get wrecked playing poker in an 8 x 8 room and they can stay the night as we are within the 5 person indoor gathering guideline (not saying I do this, or that it’s right, but it’s happening, and it’s within tolerance of the restrictions).

Unfortunately with this being year #2 of this stupidity, it’s going to be really tough to adhere to.

Double standards never work, especially when it’s in favour of those that aren’t seeking adventure, getting outside and improving their physical/mental health.

Fishing today should be considered damage control. Pure mitigation of all the undue stress we’ve been put under throughout the pandemic. We should be getting praise to get out there, supporting small businesses, exploring real life with our pals. Not fines.

Hopefully enforcement will be on the light to nil end.

Good luck everyone, have fun out there.

From what I understand from the document there is nowhere that says it has to be one household if the bungalows are classified the same as motels.

That would be great, good point! I guess it just comes down to the bungalows classification… motel vs. cabin/cottage…

Motel it is!

I am just glad that the operators are up and running and that folks are getting some stress relief out on the ice. With the 1st week not having enough ice and potentially 3 weeks of Covid shutdown that would be 40% of the season lost. This after the whole or most of the season lost last year would have been tough to stay solvent. Tourism including ice fishing is a big part of the economy up here.
Enjoy the fishing and time spent with family and friends!
