I took off to a river an hour and a half north on Sunday, avoiding the long weekend traffic, and was able to remove an asterisk from my lifelist. A couple of years ago at the same spot, I caught my first muskellunge. It was netted, then the hook came out in the net but as I was trying to get hold of it, he wiggled out through a hole in my net thanks to some friggin mice. Since I had laid my hands on it, I counted it, but never got a pic. Sunday I managed to land another 2, lost one, had a couple more follows and a few nips. There isn't much in the river except musky (some small smallmouth and rock bass are the only others I've caught) so with the bait I was throwing, I have little doubt the nips were all musky as well. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending how you look at it, the river has pretty good numbers of juveniles but the big ones are few and far between. I can only imagine how a 50" must fight. Surprisingly, I was the only person fishing anywhere I was. Only saw 3 other boats all day, and they were just cruising. See guys, it isn't just little tiny minnows that I go out chasing
