If anyone is out on Huron trying for Salmon, Lk Trout, what are you finding??
Just got my boat in the water at Goderich, & was out looking a couple times. Not finding anything , but caught a few Lake Herring (?) , nice little fish.......Thinking they might be good for smoking.....?? Anyway, Can anyone give me some tips on where the Coho are hanging out? This is my first year on Huron so I have some learning to do. ( I was on Geo.Bay before, in Midland) How far out, How deep?? Much appreciated. LNick

I know nothing about Huron, but herring is really nice when smoked.

Lots of fish in the areas you mentioned, not sure anyone could or would say they are in one certain spot. Watch where others are fishing, check those areas for structure, check temperature and do what you normally would, they will come.

Wasnít me, Iím a little farther up in Port Elgin. I do fish your area at times but thatís a better PM topic when you have the rights. I usually donít target salmon until July but thatís just my preference.

I fish out of Goderich, have been for 30 years. That doesn't make me an expert, but i have put my fair share of time in on the water...

Goderich is tough, lots of fish but lots of space to cover... spring and summer I would suggest motoring due west until you hit 100 feet of water before you set up. my choice would be all rods between 35 and 60 ft of water. I do run dipsy's too to get the outside rods out a bit from the boat and riggers behind. I stay out there in the 100 -110 FOW until I turn to come in and usually keeps the rods in until I get to 70 FOW.

As Fall comes on and they start to stack up to spawn, you can find them right off the break water in the harbour.

hope this helps. Goderich has a very flat, slow bottom, not a lot of structure. to get to 100FOW you are travelling miles off shore so please be careful. winds out of the North and West are not a good days to go, anything over 15 km/h from those directions will make it rough.

East and South are a little better but if you are heading out to 100 ft of water, you are going to get waves regardless of wind direction.

good luck!
