Hi everyone,
I will be travelling to the west arm of Nipissing next week to do some walleye fishing and I was wondering what style of fishing people have success with in the area.
I've fished further north near Temagami and have had some success catching walleye by bottom bouncing on drop-offs (15-20 feet) or on weedlines with decent depth. I havent had much success trolling deep cranks or worm harnesses near Temagami, though I wouldnt mind trying that if it will produce fish.
Not looking for specific fishing spots, but any advice on techniques that I should try would be appreciated.

good luck on your adventure! I don't exactly target walleye often, a couple times a week maybe {about the time my arms are about to fall off from casting too much, lol} but depending on where you are, they are pretty easy to find in the west arm.
I don't fish regularly past say west of the elbow, mostly just within about a 1-2km area around warren bay for walleye tho I do go a couple places in west bay on occasion. i catch them almost every time I target them. I am in the narrows so if you were very west up near st Charles this wont help you much as its a good boat ride and i'm sure there are closer options. I simply jig with worms or minnows, sometimes getting them incidentally bass fishing or pike fishing as well.
I pretty much focus on drop offs as well adjacent to deep water and trying out the 10-14 foot flats in those nearby areas as well, there are a ton and many hold fish, we also have a lot of deep water near us in the 25-65 foot range, I typically fish about 35 feet to 10 but I am no expert on walleye fishing so if I can get them i'm sure anyone can.
rarely do I troll so cant give you much advice there, for walleye I just drift or anchor.

Thank you for the reply, I will be sure to put those tips to use this week!
We are staying near the bridge for HWY 64, so it looks like most of our fishing will be done around Warren Bay. From what I've heard, lots of people have been catching walleye shallow too, in areas that are about 6-10 feet deep with tall weeds. I'll keep an eye out for flats and drop offs in the meantime.

After 6 hrs of getting my newly installed engine troubles worked out (vacuum leak and carb overhaul) we made it out for the evening bite About twenty toss backs between the two of us and this 19.5 surprise to make my day of boat troubles worth wild. First time fishing the arm and really enjoy not dealing with Nippising wave action

Ah.. OK....so you are somewhat close to where I will be fishing .. You are just up the channel towards the provincial park... as you say ~20 minutes by a 20HP to where I will be once again be trying by luck as the west arm begins to open up past Memquist and Shuwap lodges
Hope the wind stays up and the deer flys stop sampling you and your crews blood supply
Good luck with the frogs... You should get both pike and bass off them on the break line of the pads and the open water...
Stay well brother and post oics of your success on the water.

Lots and lots and lots of smallies were caught and released during the week of August 10 through 17 in the West Arm. We had 120 smallies over 15 inches for the week. Good size group of 7 Probably 300 or so in total.... It is a healthy fishery for these scrappers.
Pike plentiful as well.. First year in a while with no drum.
Not looking for pickerel so nothing to report back on...
Best baits in order were Senkos.. watermellon green and the pumkinseed with black flecks doing the job. A few on rapalas... classic floating black and gold... A few more using number 2 size mepps....Silver or Bronze. And one (which says more about our ability to use it propperly) on surface frogs...
One Observation is that the smaller baitfish.. The Perch/Sunny's/Rock Bass are not nearly there in the numbers they were a decade or two ago.
