Anybody use flourocarbon leaders for ice fishing?

If not, what colour line seems to work the best for Nippissing?

I've tried Blue, Orange, green, white, clear...

I always use a fluorocarbon leader. I’m not sure if it absolutely needed but in my mind I think it does.

Ditto. I always use a flouro leader tied to braided line with a swivel. Seem to have pretty good results.

I use nanofil line(white), with a floro leader and barrel swivel to prevent line twist. Just started doing this last year. It made a big difference for me.

If you're inside a hut then Nanofil should be fine, if you're outside and you're getting ice in your guides Nanofil will shred to bits in no time. If you like superlines, try Fireline Crystal when the temps get down there.

I use a floro leader as well, however as someone who’s picky about appearance, I tie a double uni knot. Again, call me picky but sometimes I feel like the more “junk” on your line, more for a fish to look at that might seem unnatural. I also find that if you’re using a graph or finder, barrel swivels will appear in the column unless you’re really adjusting or playing with your gain.

being that Lake Nipissing is a not a real clear lake I wonder if fluorocarbon line makes a great deal of difference.

Thanks for the heads up on that.

Nip is not clear as mentioned , but almost all of my ice rods are already filled with braid and a floro leader

this has not let me down yet

On the topic of fluoro, I use clear fluoro leaders on all my ice rods but for my pike rod I could not find a specific "ice" branded fluoro for the right lb test. So I just put regular fluoro on as a leader. Has anybody noticed any difference between using ice branded leaders or regular ones? Thanks

I just started using a leader last year on one of my rods for two reasons; first reason is because I have ice hi vis orange as my main line .the second was that already was using a leader for float fishing steelhead and wanted to see if it made a difference on the hard water. With my other rod still running strait mono to my jig head I got just as many hits on both it doesn't seem to make a difference in my case.
as far as electronics; I seem to have no problems using a barrel swivel, my unit doesn't pick it up, although I use the same one I do for steelheads, the absolute smallest ones I can find.

I like to keep a clear flourocarbon leader on my braid for ice fishing. I've never really done it any other way so I couldn't say if it makes a difference or not. I use a double uni or Alberto knot to connect the braid with flouro.
