Hey guys, I was just wondering if you have noticed any difference between "ice" branded line and the regular stuff both for mainline and fluoro leaders. I'm finding it difficult to find the right lb test of fluoro leader in "ice" branded line so I'm curious as to whether it will make a difference to just buy regular fluoro. Thanks

I've been wondering this too...need to buy new line this year and online reviews are all over the place.

After listening to a knowlegible friend who has more experience ice fishing than my self only got into it a few years back. He said get spider wire its thin and you can use heavier line. With new line installed and a fine day on the ice no hut needed it became a frustrating day on the ice. The line and islets iced up. It was a day of utter frustration, no problem if you are in a heated hut. What ever line you get make sure it is ice line. Now spider line has and ice version and now have 4 or so rods to change over again.

your eyelets are goin to ice over no matter what line you use, Ice braid does snot retain as much water but eventually will ice up, its the nature of the beast.

After reading a bunch of online reviews for 2019 i've decided to go with Suffix 832 ice braid with Berkley 100% flourocarbon ice as the leader.

For the most part ice line is marketing nonsense IMO. Ice fluoro leader would be especially useless as your leader isn't going to be exposed to cold air while your fishing. Just get a quality leader line - I like Drennan for lighter tests and Seaguar for anything 8+.

yeah, i'm not sure there is a difference either. I have used both regular and ice braid and don't recall any difference. As far as spider line goes I won't even look at it. I know a lot of guys use it, but I bought it once and it was worse then the old line I took off. Probably a bad spool, but that's all it took for me. I have a friend that used it as well and he kept getting birds nests with it. But again they sell lots of it so maybe just a couple bad spools.

I had bad luck once with Spider Wire.. put it on my reel and it started to split on me.

BUT.. I emailed their customer service with my proof of payment and they sent me a new spool. That one was excellent, seems I just got a bad batch.

I have spider wire braid on most of my open water rods and I've never seemed to have any problems with it. Also thanks for the advice i've decided to just use regular fluoro leaders instead of "ice" branded leaders.
